2 Dead, 7 Wounded In Weekend Shootings

CHICAGO (STMW) — Two men are dead and at least seven other people were wounded in shootings across Chicago since Friday afternoon.

A 26-year-old man was shot and killed early Saturday in the Austin neighborhood on the West Side.


The man was standing in the vestibule of an apartment with a 25-year-old man in the 300 block of North Central Avenue about 1:25 a.m. when an unknown suspect entered with several other people and opened fire on the two men before running away, police said.


The 26-year-old, of the 3800 block of West Arthington Street, was shot several times in the abdomen and taken to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County, where he was pronounced dead at 1:30 a.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office. His name was being withheld Saturday morning pending notification of his family.


The 25-year-old was shot once in the abdomen and taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in “guarded” condition, police said.


Less than an hour earlier, a 42-year-old man was shot and killed in the Woodlawn neighborhood on the South Side.


About 1:10 a.m. Saturday, officers responding to a call of shots fired found the man lying in the alley in the 700 block of East 67th Street, police said.


The man, of the 9400 block of South Eberhart Avenue, was taken to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County where he was pronounced dead at 2:10 a.m., according to the medical examiner’s office. His name was being withheld Saturday morning pending notification of his family.


The most recent non-fatal shooting occurred in the Logan Square neighborhood Saturday morning.

A 27-year-old man was walking in the 1800 block of North St. Louis Avenue about 4:05 a.m. when he got into a gang-related argument with three unknown men and one of them shot him in the lower left leg, police said.


A relative took the man to Presence Saint Mary Medical Center, where his condition stabilized.


In Englewood about 3:25 a.m., a 27-year-old man was standing on a porch in the 1100 block of West 68th Street when an unknown male walked up and opened fire, shooting him in the leg and groin, police said. He was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn in “stable” condition.


Less than 30 minutes earlier in the Chatham neighborhood, a 37-year-old man was shot in the hip in the 8100 block of South Ingleside Avenue, police said. He was taken to Christ Medical Center in “stable” condition.


Just before midnight, a 29-year-old man was shot in the lower right part of his chest in the Englewood neighborhood.


He was shot while he was walking on the sidewalk in the 6800 block of South Laflin Street when he heard gunshots come from a group of males standing further down the block, police said. He was taken to Christ Medical Center in “stable” condition.


About 11:30 p.m. Friday, an 18-year-old man suffered a graze wound to his in the 1800 block of North Mozart Street, police said. He was taken to Saints Mary and Elizabeth Medical Center in “stable” condition.


The first shooting of the weekend occurred at 4:35 p.m. Friday in the 3400 block of West 79th Street. A 16-year-old boy was shot in the leg and taken to Christ Medical Center in “stable” condition.


No one is in custody for any of the shootings as area detectives investigate.
