I have only heard two reasons to support illegals aliens, I do not agree with either one of those reasons...supporters claim,

    1. They are doing jobs Americans won't do.

    2. They are good for the economy.

Reasons not to support illegal aliens.

    1. They have broken our laws, and we are a nation of laws.

2.They cost the tax payers an estimated $30,000,000,000 in social services, education, Federal prison systems, and health care.

    3.They drive down wages.

4.They take jobs from tax paying citizens that are on the lower end of the pay scale.

I think it would be hard for anyone to make a defense of supporting illegal immigration. But what we usually hear is that the illegal aliens themselves deserve our sympathy and support because they are just hardworking people, fleeing poverty in Mexico or wherever they come from.
We are also told that our current immigration system is 'broken' because it makes it too hard for the illegals to come here and work. So then, supposedly the illegals are 'forced' to break our laws to enter and stay here. And their supporters say this is 'unfair' and 'inhumane'. Supposedly then we have to change our laws to accommodate all those who sneaked into our country.
And we can't forget the other defense of the illegals: America is 'a nation of immigrants', we are 'all immigrants' and therefore it's unfair to deny entry to anybody, even if they come here illegally.

If you are discussing immigration with a friend, you are likely to hear him reflexively blurt out the gem: "this is a nation of immigrants." When he does, simply point out to him that eighty-five percent of the residents of the United States were born here.

How could that preponderance of homegrown Americans justify us being called a "nation of immigrants"?

Certainly we are descendants of immigrants (as is everyone in the world), but that is not the same thing as being an immigrant.

Anyway, such a statement is no justification for continued mass immigration. The inference that "We are a nation of immigrants and, therefore, we must not limit immigration" is a classic example of circular argument.

What is says is this: Because we are a nation of immigrants, we have to allow for massive immigration which, in turn, makes us a nation of immigrants. Hence its circularity.

Circular arguments are invalid in the logical sense by virtue of how they are structured and not what do they mean. They lead to faulty (and, therefore, useless) reasoning in which the thesis (the very thing which is to be proved) is used as a premise in its proof.

And circular arguments certainly do not form a good basis on which to formulate sound public policy.

    Congratulations, bornbredhere

You are very articulate of the mind games being played out here.

For the most part, average people cannot understand this concept.

Many women, but not all, are pursueded by these types of circular arguments, since they are ruled by their emotions, and not capable of thinking logically. Week minded men are also, easily persuaded, even though their minds are wired to be more logical. Mostly, uneducated people, including most illegal aliens are not capable of understanding how illogical a statement like, "we are a nation of immigrants" is, and how it is being used to play them. However, because of this fact, statements like this remain a powerful tool to persuade too many in favor of amnesty legislation.

Many of the ones who do understand these types of arguments, will use them to play people; in order to profit from, or further their own agenda, because they know how stupid many people are. They are our true enemies

If Americans would open their minds to truth, facts, and logic, on this issue of illegal immigration, we would all be better off.

Lady_Ember, you probably need to go to the home page to read the various articles there and to the News section with current news articles to find the type of things you need to know. We can't very well do your homework for you.
