US Vote in Congress Appropriations Committe Today

NumbersUSA has sent out an alert to call the appropriations committee members. It looks like they will be placing restrictions and in some ways gutting the 287(g) program.

Please go to this Alipac link for names and numbers and details on the alert.

According to the FAIR alert on this topic, David Price is Chariman of the House Appropriations Subcommittee for Homeland Security. He made a speech yesterday to the Center for American Progress announcing that he INTENDS TO SHIFT $800 MILLION AWAY FROM WORKPLACE ENFORCEMENT AND DIRECT ICE TO USE THE FUNDS TO DEPORT CRIMINAL ALIENS INSTEAD!

Obviously, both programs need to be funded! The Immigration and Reform Act of 1986 (IRCA) makes hiring an illegal alien worker a crime, and requires enforcement of federal sanctions against employers who hire alien workers. The workplace sanctions in IRCA need to be enforced just as criminal aliens also need to be deported!

According to FAIR, the committee is "marking up" the FY09 Homeland Security Appropriations bill today. Thanks for list of members by state!

I faxed all day yesterday. I just spoke with Congressman Prices office of NC. He is the chairman. He assured me that the 287(g) program will not be gutted but that criminal aliens are to be first priority. I held his feet to the fire giving him specific incidents where routine traffic stops uncovered illegal aliens using false documentation and huge ID theft rings. The raids have uncovered supervisors of companies that are illegals and that American citizens are refused jobs.

When I talked with Rep. Price's office, I could get neither affirmation nor denial of his speech yesterday. The aide just keep assuring me "the first priority is that criminal aliens must be deported, which ICE has not been doing." When I asked him whether this would be done at the expense of funding for workplace enforcement, he said that "the bill is not public until it is marked up", and went back into his criminal alien deportation speech. Of course deportation of criminal aliens should be funded, along with workplace enforcement, 287(g), our border patrol, the fence, etc., etc., etc.!

I have been telling them it is about damn time that taxpayer money get spent on something taxpayers want and that is law enforcement of all of our immigration laws, work place enforcement, 287G etc.

    Texas2Step,

I got the same reaction from Prices office.

They attempted to tell me the language that is in the email we have been recieving is wrong and that the $800 million is not being diverted.

We sorta got into an arguement when I asked why we can't just ship the employer off to jail instead of deporting the product (illegal immigrants) which just find their way back because the lawmakers won't close the borders. If we go after the employers then we don't have to worry about all this so called discrimination that these ethnic groups talk of.

As I told her, that $800 million could track down and jail alot of employers for hiring the illegals which would stop the hiring of the illegals in the first place as soon as employers see other employers going to jail left and right. Her response was, look at all the money The Administraition is spending on this, to say we aren't taking illegal immigration seriously is false. I told her its wasted money if those deported can return here next month. She also indicated that we would rather deport the serious criminals instead of paying for housing them in our prisons. What? So they can come back next month and commit more crimes because we didn't jail them? What about the victims of those criminals? Where is their due justice? Not really any answer on that as well.

I then asked why not spend the money on the problem that brings the illegals here, which is the EMPLOYERS HIRING THEM, without the employers hiring them for fear of going to jail, the illegals wouldn't come here if they knew they can't get a job or benefits. She really had no specific answer for me on that question and kept diverting to the issue at hand. Surprise!

I also asked when are the Senators and Representetives going to get this stopped? Are we going to just keep playing around here and there acting like this country is going to do something about it or are we going to slowly just stop everything for the global agenda, stunned again, no answers, just more babble about how they are really working hard to get this under control. Yeah Right!

Its clear we are running in circles time and time again. Get one law passed and another gets knocked down, then the next month its reversed. All the billions that are being knowingly wasted (tax payer money by the way) to put up a false front as if the politicians are really trying to do something about illegal immigration.

Until the employers are HELD ACCOUNTABLE or either THE BORDER IS SHUT DOWN, or preferably both, all this is a waste of money. Just like buying a boat with a hole in it. Eventually, if the hole isn't patched, its going to sink. Why buy a boat that is going under? This is the warped logic and misleading governing we are facing. This make absolutely no sense at all.
Unless we get those criminals & make them pay for what they have done to our country and the lawlessness they have sponsored, we are just another Mexico ourselves!

I feel you. Polititians are full of it.

They play with words and use twisted logic to drive the issue that some are good criminals and others are bad criminals. As if crime had morals.

Imagine if the amnesty bill had passed. All this would have happened. No enforcement, no border security, no accountability, and 20 million illegal aliens telling their friends and family back home to come over while the economy and our social services are still up for grabs.
