Tonight, we continue our coverage of the wildfires that are
devastating the San Diego and Los Angeles regions of Southern
California. More than 300,000 people have been displaced and an
estimated 1,300 homes and businesses destroyed by the fire.
President Bush has declared the region a federal disaster area,
allowing the military to join in the firefighting and rescue
efforts. Tune in tonight for all the latest, including live
reports from the area, the outlook for the coming days and
more.

Western states have been plagued by severe drought and raging
wildfires this year, making it one of the worst fire seasons in
decades. The $1 billion allotted to fight wildfires this year
was already nearly gone by August. With the U.S. military
arriving to help fight the fires today, questions remain about
whether California had the resources it needed to fight the
fires. We’ll have a special report on California’s preparedness
to fight the raging fires.

The DREAM Act, which would legalize millions of illegal aliens
if they attend college or join the military, was back on the
