Gang Threatens To Kill Police, Department on High Alert

FRESNO, Calif. (KMPH) - Fresno Police Chief Jerry Dyer put his department on high alert, concern grows when a gang threatens to retaliate after an police shooting sends a wanted man to the hospital.

Chief Jerry Dyer says, "We have received credible information from multiple sources that this particular gang has taken steps to arm themselves and have made well know that they are going to shoot a Fresno police officer."

It's been a long Easter Sunday, as Fresno police are taking extra steps to protect themselves.

It all began after officers spotted a man wanted for an early morning murder.

They tried to pull him over at Highway 99 and Stanislaus.

Following a high-speed chase, officers rammed his car near Arthur and Strother, where he took off on foot.

Chief Dyer says, "At some point the suspect according to the officers made some type of movement that caused the officers to believe that he was arming himself. The officers fired their weapons at the suspect."

Chief Dyer says his officers did find a gun on the man.

No police officers were hurt

Now because of the threats officers are currently gang sweeps, making sure none of those threats is carried out.

This is the 3rd police shooting for Fresno in 2013.
