GOP Rep. Brat: We Buckled to Dems on Omnibus Spending Bill

Conservative Rep. Dave Brat railed against the omnibus spending bill put forward by Congress and criticized his own party for caving in to Democrats, telling Breitbart radio that "we buckled."



Further, Brat, R-Virginia, hopes President Donald Trump vetoes the $1.3 trillion funding bill.
"We need nine Democrat Senators to win, so we buckled," Brat told SiriusXM’s "Breitbart News Tonight" late Wednesday. "Our leadership needs to tell the Republican senators and the Democrats, 'We’ll compromise a little. You get a little.’ But we’re not getting a little."



But in all of that discretionary spending, Trump gets zero funding for a border wall while Democrats succeeded in securing funding for the Gateway Project - renovating the tunnel that connects New York City to New Jersey.



"We’re not getting 20 or 30 billion for the Trump wall, which he ran on, which the American people clearly voted for – some form of border security – and that’s just the tip of the iceberg," Brat told Breitbart. "I’m hoping that he will throw a veto, until we get rid of sanctuary cities and we get some funding for border control. … No, we’re not getting a fair deal."



Worst of all, Brat said, is that the entire spending bill is being leveraged against our kids, saying they "don't have any lobbyists up here."

"Everyone’s concerned about the kids, except they’re not. We’re putting all this on the kids’ credit card," Brat said, adding that the $3 trillion that funds Medicare, Social Security accounts for three fourths of the total budget.



"It never gets mentioned. That’s the bulk of the budget, and all of those programs are insolvent, upside-down, bankrupt in 2034," said Brat, member of the House Freedom Caucus.


"The kids will not have the programs they assume they will have. So it’s intergenerational theft of the first magnitude. It’s immoral. It’s unethical, and we have to make a change."
