Sen. Schumer calls out Arizona Gov. Brewer

Sen. Schumer calls out Arizona Gov. Brewer

    By Alicia M. Cohn - 03/13/12 03:56 PM ET

Sen. Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) is not done calling out Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer for turning down his request to testify before a Senate hearing on immigration legislation.
Lawmaker who authored controversial #AZ #immigration law will testify before Senate. @GovBrewer leaving others to defend law she signed
    — Chuck Schumer (@ChuckSchumer) March 13, 2012

Schumer's office announced on Tuesday that former Arizona state Sen. Russell Pearce (R), one of the authors of Arizona's controversial immigration bill, will testify on the bill before the Senate Judiciary subcommittee on Immigration, Refugees and Border Security.“ Other Arizona officials responsible for this law are willing to come and defend it, but not Gov. Brewer," Schumer said in a statement on Tuesday. " The governor is the one who signed this bill into law; she shouldn't leave the defense of it to others.”

Brewer's spokesman said last month that the governor would turn down the invitation to testify at the hearing because the timing of the hearing, scheduled for April 24 — the day before the Supreme Court will begin hearing arguments in defense of the law — gave it “every mark of a publicity stunt.”

Schumer had asked Brewer to defend her state's law at a hearing meant to examine “whether it is both constitutional and sound public policy for states to enact broad laws” on immigration, such as the bill in Arizona.

The legislation, SB 1070, would allow the state's police to verify the citizenship of individuals if they have "reasonable suspicion" about their status. The Obama administration filed a lawsuit against the 2010 law and the Supreme Court will hear the case in April. Brewer will testify in the case.

“Gov. Brewer has long said border security is one of the nation’s most pressing issues, so it is odd that she is unwilling to even come to Congress to defend her views," Schumer responded to Brewer at the time. "It makes you wonder whether there is genuine interest in finding real solutions to our broken immigration system. We hope the governor will reconsider."

Man I can't begin to tell you how much I detest Chucky!

Schumer had asked Brewer to defend her state's law at a hearing meant to examine “whether it is both constitutional and sound public policy for states to enact broad laws” on immigration, such as the bill in Arizona.
Instead I think Chucky should be defending his position! Afterall HE AND HIS "COMMITTEE" are breaking the law in supporting illegal invaders!

They're just upset that Brewer isn't falling for their tactics to bait her...she is smart and knows their plan, and is wisely avoiding them and spending her time on issues that really help Americans.
