Hispanic - Latino - why does that mean?
Question: Why is the term Hispanic or Latino used in a way that basically has elevated an ethnic label to racial status. Today in America when filling in any application you are asked if you are white, african american, asian or Hispanic? Why is the ethnic label used among racial labels, what makes the Hispanics more special than ANY other ethnic group? Well guees what the so-called leaders of that group got the message, they are indeed special, their label IS made special by the US Census Bureau and that is why this they are getting stronger, more powerful etc, they have achieved racial status and all the good stuff taht comes with it!
That is why we as Americans need to DEMAND that teh Hispanic label be stripped out of teh next 2010 US Census becuase it is being used for demographic hegemony and we go along out of idiocy!
Hispanics, are whites, blacks asians etc so lets count them as such and no other way. Nobody puts me in a FRANCOPHONE class and yet we are like Hispanics a collection of various countries, races with French culture, French culture and catholicism. Exactly what what Hispanic means!
Teh Hispanic label as used is DANGEROUS because it basically enshrines, albeit unconstitutionally, the HISPANIZATION of America.
We need to demand that it'd be stripped as it is a subversion.
Thoughts?

It would be helpful to know where illegals live.
I want the demographics to include the fact that they are illegal hispanics and not lump them into one catagory.
Also Hispanics can be white or black so some defferentiation would make the information more accurate.Join our efforts to Secure America's Borders and End Illegal Immigration by Joining ALIPAC's E-Mail Alerts network (CLICK HERE)

So for race would I be considered White then since you're suggesting the Hispanic label be stripped off? I'm obviously not Black nor Asian, but I guess my skin tone most resembles that of a White person. So White it is.

I am also beginning to wonder if ethnicity or race should even matter. It should be nothing more than "are you here legally or illegally and prove it!" There is probably no such thing as a pure race these days, so why does race or ethnicity make any difference at all? We apparently are all descended from a primordial soup of elements, which according to some theory got here from somewhere in outer space by a comet or meteor. I am a Homo sapien sapiens as are all people on earth, and these statistics about race are nothing more than government make-work. Gee they need more money to study ethnicity--and who knows some nut may decide to start studying what colors a predominantly worn by people in this country's communities (pastels or bold colors).

The census should have only 'two' categories.
1-United States Citizen.
2-Resident Alien.

alamb is right.
Here are the defintions of "Hispanic" from my Oxford American Dictionary:
adj: "of Spain or Latin America"
noun: "a Spanish-speaking person in the U.S."
That is ALL "Hispanic" really means, yet it has been elevated by powerful ethno-centric special interest groups so that the term "Hispanic" now implies that one is "enshrined by God".Join our efforts to Secure America's Borders and End Illegal Immigration by Joining ALIPAC's E-Mail Alerts network (CLICK HERE)
