Regarding the student diagnosed in Miami Florida with Tuberculosis..
I decided to find out more about the disease.

I went to the CDC (Center for Disease Control) and they had some very recent information dated March 2005. Here is some of what I learned.

More than one third of the global population is infected with TB.

Each year around the world 8 million people become infected, 2 million die.
TB rate among foreign born is 9 times the rate of U.S. born.

Seven states now bear more than half the total burden of TB:
California, Florida, Texas, Georgia, Illinois, New Jersey, and New York.

There is a new multi-drug resistant TB.

The CDC is using a notification system to alert local health departments
about immigrants arriving who are known or believed to have TB.

They are working with public health officials in Mexico to improve TB control among those who frequently cross the U.S. border from Mexico.

There is important information you can read at the CDC website.
