While Republican presidential hopeful Newt Gingrich's immigration plan does not promise citizenship for illegal aliens, the head of an immigration reduction advocacy organization has an issue with the fact that it allows them to remain in the country.

Newt Gingrich has made it known that he does not want to grant blanketed amnesty to millions of illegal aliens. Instead, he says illegals who have been in the U.S. for at least 25 years should be given the chance to legally remain in the country. But unlike Obama or Bush, he says he would never allow them to become citizens.

Roy Beck, founder and president of Numbers USA, says the former House speaker is disingenuously throwing out the figure of 25 years.

"When you go to his website and see his official policy, he doesn't talk about 25 years; he just says anybody with 'deep family or community roots,'" Beck notes. "Well, out of the 11 million illegal aliens, the estimates are that maybe up to seven million could qualify as having deep family or community roots. So he's not talking about some small thing about just people who have been here 25 years, which might be a couple hundred thousand people."

And the president of the anti-illegal immigration organization suggests that the GOP contender is pragmatically proposing an amnesty plan that denies citizenship.

"He knows that Republicans can champion the amnesty, but any amnesty, almost all illegal aliens will vote Democratic once they become citizens," Beck points out. "So he wants to make sure these people don't ever become part of the Democratic voting bloc."

While he deems Gingrich's plan as better than Obama's or George W. Bush's, the Numbers USA founder says it still allows illegals to get what they want: the chance to legally work in the U.S. and continued access to taxpayer-funded healthcare and education.
