"Illegal" is Code for Racism & Hispanic Hatred

"Illegal" is Code for Racism and Hispanic Hatred

NEW YORK (By Stiletto) October 29th, 2007 — Last month, New York State Gov. Eliot Spitzer announced that the state’s Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) would reverse a post-9/11 policy by the Pataki administration to deny a driver’s license to anyone who could not prove legal status – immediately prompting at least a dozen county clerks who operate DMV offices as agents of the state to announce they would flout the new rules.

To combat identity fraud, all but eight states – HI, ME, MD, MI, NM, OR, UT and WA –require drivers to prove legal status to obtain driver’s licenses.

Spitzer did an about-face only after the state’s top Dem leaders warned that the controversial move would imperil the prospects of state Senate candidates, leading to "unprecedented losses" in November – and may even cost Hillary the state in the presidential race. And their fears are not unfounded: Upset New Yorkers rallied at the Capitol in Albany, calling for the governor’s impeachment or recall.

Last week, Rep. Rahm Emanuel (IL), chairman of the House Democratic Caucus took a break from enshrining Clinton Administration policies with his all-out effort to kill the Armenian Genocide Resolution to tell The Washington Post:

"This issue, illegal immigration, has real implications for the country. It captures all the American people’s anger and frustration not only with immigration, but with the economy. It’s self-evident. This is a big problem."

"For the American people, and therefore all of us, it’s emerged as the third rail of American politics. And anyone who doesn’t realize that isn’t with the American people."

Spitzer finally listened to reason or panic and abandoned his insistence that drivers’ licenses for illegals be identical to standard licenses issued by the DMV and has now endorsed a different design, along with markings that prevent their use as ID when entering a federal building or boarding a plane. The state has also agreed to participate in the federal Real ID program, which requires drivers’ license applicants to prove legal residency and identity – a valid passport or visa and a verifiable Social Security number, for instance.

Those who earn their livings undermining every law meant to secure our borders, predictably condemned Spitzer, reports The Times:

The separate licenses could serve as an invitation for law enforcement to arrest anyone carrying one on immigration charges, said Donna Lieberman, executive director of the New York Civil Liberties Union. She added that the new proposal could send illegal immigrants further into the shadows, compelling them to drive with forged or no licenses and without insurance.

As Spitzer and other politicians are dealing with the reality of an electorate enraged over illegal immigration, liberals prefer the fantasy that the real ill in "illegal" is racism, not lawlessness. This from Lawrence Downes, who has been a member of The Times’ editorial board since 2004: I am a human pileup of illegality. I am an illegal driver and an illegal parker and even an illegal walker, having at various times stretched or broken various laws and regulations that govern those parts of life. The offenses were trivial, and I feel sure I could endure the punishments — penalties and fines — and get on with my life. Nobody would deny me the chance to rehabilitate myself. Look at Martha Stewart, illegal stock trader, and George Steinbrenner, illegal campaign donor, to name two illegals whose crimes exceeded mine.

Good thing I am not an illegal immigrant. There is no way out of that trap. It’s the crime you can’t make amends for. Nothing short of deportation will free you from it, such is the mood of the country today. And that is a problem.

[b]America has a big problem with illegal immigration, but a big part of it stems from the word “illegal.â€

This is the reason why immigration law states that no more than 10 percent of immigrants can come from one country. To prevent such things from happening. America is melting pot of immigrants from different countries and cultures, not ONLY hispanic. Of course, this applies to legal immigration. Let's keep it that way.

Lawrence Downs is an idiot, HE and others like him CHOOSE to make it about race, they've got nothing else.

The sleeping giant has awoken and is pissed off to the max!

Back in September, Spitzer told The New York Times, "The D.M.V. is not the I.N.S.
Wow, just goes to show how detached from reality he really is... (eg. there is no INS... anymore, remember?)

Driving is not a right. We are already too lenient.

Way too many illegals driving without insurance and we all know it

There are too many teenagers driving that can't handle it. Parents need to be responsible and quit using cars as babysitters. Pick up your kids and drop them off, you will cut down on a lot of crimes committed by teenagers.

Too many drunks getting back on the road, even after losing licenses. Impound the damn car.

No drivers education for anyone, so we are a nation full of bad drivers making the Insurance Companies Rich.

The DMV needs to be revamped, from the bottom up.

Driving age needs to be 18, plus with serious drivers education.

English needs to be the required language.

A Driver's License should not be ID for anything but driving, not voting, etc.

I don't care what they do in Europe. They don't have the problems we have.

This kind of tirade is what sets me off when people call someone or something 'racist'.

Unfortunately, this is the quick retort, from anyone who disagrees with those of us who are against illegals.

First they say we are racist. I say Illegals are of all races, so how does that wash?

Next they say we are not kind or feeling. I am feeling a lot for my fellow middle class Americans, with no jobs, or jobs for $10.00 per hour or less, and jobs with no benefits, including healthcare.

Then they say we are xenophobes. Whatever.

Note that almost everyone who supports illegals, or turns a blind eye, makes over $50,000 per year, couples $100,000. These are the folks that can afford to send their kids to private school (away from the illegals) and the same folks that have an illegal maid, nanny and landscaper. These folks can afford their healthcare and get great tax deductions.

Xenophobia is the fear of strangers. Are they kidding? We are among the most diverse country on this planet. We take in 2 million legal immigrants per year. Xenophobia my a@@. Just another attempt by the ethnocentric, racist traitors to demonize law abiding Americans.

Racism comes in ALL colors, INCLUDING brown. For years here in Dallas, TX, I have observed Hispanic racists CRUELLY deride and discriminate against NON-Hispanics, EVEN NON-Hispanic LATINOS! My legal resident Brazilian friend, with FOUR bachelor's degrees (education, science, psychology, and foreign languages--she speaks Portuguese, Spanish, French, German, and English), was HARASSED by a RACIST Mexican professor on the job two years ago at the college where she worked teaching immigrants English. When my friend defended herself and her culture, he had her FIRED! Hispanic racists also attack her legal resident Brazilian Catholic priest and his fellow Brazilians at their church. They say my friend, her priest, and their fellow Brazilians are not REAL Latinos because they are PORTUGUESE, not HISPANIC ones! French Latinos from Haiti, French Guiana and elsewhere, Italians, and Romanians are ALSO fair game for Hispanic racists! And, of course, NON-Hispanics are targeted as well! While ALL types of racism ARE bad, I must confess that Hispanic racism is among the WORST I have EVER seen ANYWHERE!

It is just a word. It is a word that they think has power and they can throw it out there in order to force you to give in and shut up - won't do it.

My daughter lives in NYC. She said she was going somewhere the other day and she saw a family that was definitely tourists. They had the map, was pointing, looking, seemed lost, etc. She walked up to them and asked if she could help. They replied in Spanish, one of the teenage children could speak some English. They were from Spain. She speaks some Spanish - definitely TEx Mex Spanish.

They wanted to go to the Museum of Modern Art and she finally got them to understand how to get there.

The two daughters and the man had all spoken with her, the woman never spoke. The daughters and man all thanked my daughter graciously as they left. The woman turned and called my daughter and pointed to herself and said, "I'm Spanish - not Mexican' - in Spanish.

My daughter said, 'Si, Espana - no Mexican'.

But she wondered just why the lady seemed to feel she had to point out that fact.
