Probation for voter fraud
Probation in voter fraud
A Cook County judge imposed two years of probation Tuesday for three Chicago women involved in a voter fraud scam. Jalissa Santiago, 21, Migdalia Echevarria, 37, and Windaliz Santiago, 21, each pleaded guilty to theft and mutilation of election materials charges in Judge Dennis Dernbach's courtroom, said Assistant Cook County State's Attorney Lynn McCarthy. Prosecutors say the three women worked between June 2003 and February 2004 as part of an effort to register more Puerto Rican voters in Cook County. Instead, the women simply copied names out of phone books, prosecutors said. The fraud came to light when workers with the Chicago Board of Elections were checking some of the names and addresses the women submitted.

I would have sent them to jail. It demonstrates that some judges and people don't take voter fraud seriously.
