GOP Legislators Support Work-Site Raids On Undocumented Immigrants

    January 31, 2011
    by Personal Liberty News Desk

Republican lawmakers are calling for more aggressive measures in an attempt to preserve American jobs.

The Immigration Subcommittee of the House Judiciary Committee (HJC) held its first hearing under GOP leadership on Jan. 26. Republican members called on President Barack Obama's administration to reinforce workplace raids on undocumented employees, which was an aggressive approach adopted by George W. Bush in the final years of his presidency.

According to the Los Angeles Times, work-site raids for immigration-related offenses have decreased by about 70 percent since Obama took office. Representative Lamar Smith (R-Texas), the chairman of the HJC, said that this practice should not be ignored with the national unemployment rate exceeding 9 percent.

"It is hard to imagine a worse time to cut work-site enforcement efforts by more than half," said Smith, quoted by the news provider. "Citizens and legal immigrants should not be forced to compete with illegal workers for jobs."

According to United States Immigration Customs and Enforcement (ICE), it costs taxpayers about $12,500 to deport each illegal immigrant. Frank Sharry, executive director of the America's Voice Education Fund, said that lawmakers should focus their efforts on getting these undocumented workers to register with the government and pay taxes, as opposed to charging Americans millions of dollars for mass deportations.

It would be much less expensive to deport them at $12,500 each, than to continue to let them stay here. It costs at least that much to educate one of their kids for a year, not to mention how much it costs every time they have an anchor or use a hospital ER.

Why don't they have raids unannounced? Catch them off guard.

I'm sure OSHA doesn't announce when they are coming, just show up at a whim's notice.

I don't understand why it costs so much to deport illegals. You catch them, send them in front of the judge and load them on a bus south. Feed them the same food my hero Joe gives his prisoners. In fact, if you have to keep them over night have tent prisons to hold them. Treat them well and they will come back with little fear of being caught again. Treat them like the criminals they are and maybe they will think twice.
We need to have these tent prisons all over. It's time to treat them like they should be treated. No more five star prisons.
I don't break the law because I don't want to lose my rights and have to stay locked up. That would kill me. But the way we treat the prisoners is just plain wrong. No TV, no good food, no visits. I don't know what else, but make it a punishment, not a vacation.

I think it cost so much to deport IA's because they are allowed endless appeals which takes years . That practice and our laws needs to be changed.

Also we need more immigration judges to quickley deport IA's.

Plus if Jose gets fired for not having the proper docs

5 minutes later he becomes Juan with a whole new set of docs , until he is caught again

NO , they need to FEAR the raids , and we need more of them

mexican illegals can afford to send 20 billion a year back to mexico

yet American taxpayers have to pay for welfare, anchor babies , healthcare, education and everything else

    THIS IS JUST WRONG
