The central point of his floor speech was that we has going to introduce in the US Senate, the same bill that passed in the US House (can't recall the number), but I believe the counterpart bill was the Safe American Roads Act of 2007 - sponsored by Boyda (D-KS) and DeFazio (D-OR). Basically, what the bill does is eliminate the funding from the DOT so that the pilot program is effectively 'killed'.

Can we do a campaign to get some senate support behind Dorgan's Amendment (to which bill I am not sure...)?

The bill to which Sen. Dorgan wishes to add the amendment cutting off funding to the Mexican Pilot Truck Program is the FY2008 Transportation Appropriations bill, altho. I don't know the number of the bill either. The House version of this same bill contains, as noted above, this provision from Rep. Boyda's "Safe American Roads Act of 2007".

Sen Specter (R-PA) is on the floor speaking - just said he would CO-SPONSOR Sen. Byron Dorgan's (D-ND) Amendment. He has safety concerns about program.

Also Sen Landrieu of (D-LA) just finished speaking - she also said she too would co-sponsor the bill...

Hmmmm, things are looking up a bit and getting just a tad more interesting.

Dorgan's the man.....Best Dem in government. He wrote a book on oursourcing recently -- I forget the name. But he promoted it on Lou's show a couple of weeks ago. The guy really speaks my mind.

Hell, if Specter is with us on this one, things are definitely looking good....

I think they combined 1773 and safe American road act we will have to do some checking, but we have a thread we are fighting this with now.
