Thread From PBS Message Board, Ill Immigration & Gangs

Check out this thread from the PBS series "Wide Angle". The documentary is about thug street gangs in El Salvador called "18 With A Bullet". The documentary talks about the illegal immigration issue, and that 20% of the pouplation from El Salvadore now lives in the US.

Some first hand knowledge posted on the PBS message board, about what impact these thugs have on a country and community.

This thread is from the feedback forum, about the documentary.

It was a 5 page thread, but worth the read.

    My conclusions are...

    1. This country's support of the exploitation of the Salvadoran peasants by Big Business and Bigger Profits was and is the ROOT CAUSE of El Salvador's civil war and government repression.

    2. Our open borders and non-enforcement of immigration law have allowed this gang to expand rapidly and nationally, bringing that same 'war in the streets' mentality to a neighborhood near you.

    3. As the middle-class devolves into the peasants our corporate masters desire, an increase in desperation and poverty will cause the violence to increase.

    4. Vigilantism will increase as law enforcement is overwhelmed by the problem. Private bodyguards become a growth industry. Kidnapping insurance becomes a necessary expense in South Texas. Oh wait, that's ALREADY HAPPENED!

    5. Staring into these tea leaves gives me a RAGING headache!
