Letter to the Editor re In-State Tuition

    An unfair argument

Editor: I have to question the wisdom of your editorial of April 27 regarding the in-state tuition legislation before the Legislature. I will begin with the end of your editorial wherein you said, "So much for the American dream."
Please remember that the American dream is for people who have waited for years to qualify for a green card that would allow them to come to our country and work - LEGALLY. This is just not a fair argument because you are comparing apples and oranges.
Our country limits immigration to specific numbers from different countries each year and I have a friend in Ireland - a very bright, English-speaking college graduate - who has placed her name in the "lottery" for a green card to come to the U.S. to work for three years and she has not been chosen. Yet, you feel it is right to allow children of illegal immigrants to take up a space that would otherwise go to a child of a citizen of this state and this country?
That just doesn't add up. That is just teaching people that it is just fine and dandy to come to our country illegally and have the red carpet rolled out. They seem to take one part of our motto literally - "the land of the free" part.
I honestly do not believe the illegal immigrants who have migrated to North Carolina contribute more to our economy than they take from it. The first lesson they need to learn is that we will not accept anyone crossing our borders illegally. And, the second lesson they should learn is that English is the language of the land.
I will continue to lobby both on the state level and the federal level to put a stop to this open border policy. I will never be convinced that these illegals are just taking the "jobs that Americans won't take." I believe that, in Davidson County alone, many displaced workers would love to take some of those jobs from those who have broken our laws to get them.

    THANKS!

I just wanted to thank both Good12Me and Judy for the supportive comments on my letter to the Editor! And, yes--Good12Me DID find me and we had a wonderful chat last night. Now, that was some sleuthing if you ask me!!! Even though she wasn't able to recruit me since I am already recruited, it was just great to be able to get so much useful information from her. She is just SO knowledgeable about this issue and I am just a novice on the website but, believe me, I am a HUGE SUPPORTER OF the group and the cause. The South will rise again!!! And, NOT the SOUTH of the BORDER South!!!

    Thanks again, ladies.

Bootsie, thanks for emailing that editor. We all need to make sure that we do something similar when given the opportunity. People need to see the correct side of the issue.
