Pair gets probation, fines in harboring illegal immigrants

The operators of S&W Custom Interiors were sentenced in U.S. District Court Thursday to three years' probation.

Federal prosecutors say Lonnie Storms and Todd Wilson harbored illegal immigrants.

Storm also will have to pay a $6,000 fine while Wilson will have to pay a $3,000 fine. This was the result of a plea agreement in which most of the counts against the pair were dropped.

All charges against Joyce Storms, vice president of S&M, also were dropped. Her relationship to Lonnie Storms was not available.

The business is located in the 9200 block of Brookfield Court in an industrial area of unincorporated Boone County.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials raided it in June 2006.

Seven individuals were detained during the raid for being in the country illegally.

Their arrests came during a crackdown on the use of illegal labor in Northern Kentucky home-building industry.

During the summer of 2006, about 100 illegal immigrants were picked up at various construction sites throughout the region. Most were ultimately deported.

For several years S&W provided interior finishing services, such as hanging dry wall, for new homes constructed in Boone, Kenton and Campbell counties.

Storm and Wilson would use undocumented workers for the jobs, issue paychecks to U.S. citizens who cashed the checks and gave the money to the illegal immigrants, according to court records.
