The race between incumbent Joe Moody and challenger Dee Margo was pretty much settled by voters in two precincts.

Overall, Margo won by 1,392 votes. He received 15,299 votes. Moody received 13,907 votes. The bulk of Margo's winning margin came from Fire Station 15 and Fire Station 27.

Fire Station 15 is in the Upper Valley next to White Spur Park.

Fire Station 27 is on the West Side near Franklin High School on Ojo De Agua Lane.

Combined, Margo won at those two sites by 1,036 votes.

The rest of the precincts in House District 78 were split by the candidates as Margo won 19 of them and Moody carried 18.

-------

The Upper Valley neighborhoods that vote at Tennis West, Lincoln Middle and Fire Station 15 have become Republican strongholds.

Every Republican candidate easily won at each of those precincts.

Even U.S. Rep. Silvestre Reyes, D-Texas, who lives in the area, was unable to win in the Upper Valley.

Overall, Reyes lost 34 precincts, most of them in the Upper Valley and Northeast.

State Sen.-elect José RodrÃ*guez did not win the Upper Valley, either, as he lost in 25 precincts.

The Democratic Party continues to dominate when it comes to straight- ticket voting, according to El Paso County election results.

There were 47,198 straight-party votes cast on Tuesday.

Of those, 65.68 percent, or 30,998, were Democrat. Only 15,433 were Republican.

As Republican county judge candidate Jaime Perez said, the "moral of the story: Democrats

outvoted Republicans 2.5 to 1.

"Republicans have some work to do for 2012."

Perez lost to Democrat Veronica Escobar.

-------

It took until Wednesday morning, but U.S. Rep. Ciro Rodriguez, D-Texas, finally conceded defeat to his challenger, Republican Francisco Canseco. At about 9 a.m., the San Antonio congressman issued this statement:

"I have been truly honored and blessed to have represented the constituents of the 23rd Congressional District for the past four years. The voters have spoken and chosen to elect a new leader to represent them in Congress.

"I respect their decision and wish Congressman-elect Canseco the best. I want to thank all my supporters, staff and volunteers who gave tirelessly to this campaign. We let our principles guide us and I have no regrets. I believe I worked hard with our constituents to leave this District better than we found it."

Rodriguez has been in Congress since 2007. The district covers part of El Paso County.

Longtime politician and radio personality Barbara Perez is back in public office.

The former city representative and county commissioner defeated Republican Gracie Valenzuela to win the Justice of the Peace No. 4 seat. Perez, a Democrat, won with 53.19 percent of the vote.

Perez previously served three terms on the El Paso City Council.

She was also a county commissioner and a trustee on the Socorro Independent School District board.

Each time she resigned to run for a higher office and lost.

She is also a retired radio talk-show host.

------

Neither the Democrats nor the Republicans were particularly pleased with Tuesday's local turnout, party officials said.

In El Paso County, only about 24 percent -- just under 91,000 -- of the county's more than 378,000 voters cast ballots.

That is a huge drop from 2008 when more than 178,000 people turned out to vote in the presidential election.

-------

Reyes, one of the few Democrats in Congress who won Tuesday, said Wednesday it will take about a week before he knows what his new role in Congress will be.

With more than 50 Democrats losing to Republicans on Tuesday, Republicans now control the House and it is expected that Reyes will lose his position as chairman of the intelligence committee.

He said he will adjust to the new leadership, but emphasized that he wants to continue as a congressman for as long as it takes to make sure there is proper funding for Fort Bliss and the new Beaumont Army Medical Center.

He also wants to work on bringing a full veterans hospital to El Paso.

------

An e-mail allegedly sent by Republican candidate Tim Besco to other Republicans was forwarded to the news media.

The e-mail says, "thanks for nothing," and it criticizes the local GOP for not helping him.

It ends with a cuss word.

Neither Besco nor anyone from his campaign could be reached Wednesday to verify the e-mail.

Besco lost to Reyes.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Margo and his wife are best buddies with George W and Laura Bush.
They support Amnesty ideas. What the results spell out to me is that once again, it's who you know and how wealthy you are.(the bulk of those who voted at the above mentioned locations)
And of course then there is the idiot Sylvestre Reyes who keeps getting elected by illegals and legals despite the fact that he has repeatedly stabbed El Paso in the back since he's been a Senator. The former head of our local Border Patrol who since having been in the Senate has completely flipped on Border security and issues.
