    June 12th, 2007

BUNNING SAYS BETTER BORDER SECURITY STARTS WITH ENFORCING THE LAWS ALREADY ON THE BOOKS

Washington, DC - U.S. Senator Jim Bunning today joined eight other Senators in sending a letter to President Bush asking the Administration to enforce the border security laws that have already been authorized by Congress regardless of whether the Senate passes the immigration reform bill or not.

“One of the main reasons we are currently faced with this problem of illegal immigration is because we have not done a good enough job of securing our borders with the tools already available,â€

And if he fails to do what the Senators are asking, he will continue to be in violation of his oath to protect our security and our safety.

The problem is that Bush is blackmailing us. He won't allow any border enforcement without amnesty.

You're right about that, americangirl. Bush know many of his plans will fail to materialize individually (not enough support), that is why he must incorporate them into a comprehensive bill. The Democrats are also thinking along the same lines. They know the American public will never buy amnesty and their other illegal immigrant favorable initiatives as stand alone bills. Like you said, it's blackmail in its purest form. Bush and the Democrats will not give the Republicans and the majority of Americans improved border security, tough employee sanctions, and enhanced interior enforcement without getting the things they want.

That is the very reason we don't want or need a comprehensive plan! Accepting such a plan would mean accepting amnesty! We need to continue our push have Bush and his administration to enforce the immigration laws as currently written - that includes the 854-mile border fence, increased border patrol agents, increased retention space (beds). All of these things have already been written into law.
