    Chertoff and Dual Citizensh

Rumor has it that Michael Chertoff will be replacing Gonzo. I've done a lot of research and found him to have dual citizinship which is US and Israel. In most countries this is unacceptable. Is this allowed in our country? I feel it is a conflict of interest.

It's legal, but questionable for someone of such high ranking in the field of security to hold dual-citizenship.

But then again it is just Israeli citizenship and we are extremely close with Israel. They are a major ally of the U.S.

Under Israeli law, anyone of who is of the Jewish religion can get instant citizenship upon immigrating to Israel.

Dual citizenship has always bothered me. How do you serve two masters? What keeps that individual from seeking the benefits of both countries but showing allegiance to neither or wholly one over the other? It does not seem right and I do not agree with this. I say, to be an American you must have total, undivided allegiance to America and America only. Anthing less is a disservice.

I DONT THINK ANY OFFICIAL OF OUR GOVERNMENT SHOULD HAVE DUAL CITIZENSHIP. EVEN IF IT IS ISRAEL. IN FACT I DONT THINK ANY OFFICIAL OF OUR GOVERNMENT SHOULD BE FOREIGN BORN. THINGS CAN CHANGE FAST AND LOYALTIES MUST BE TO THE USA ONLY WITH NO OTHER STRINGS. THERE ARE PLENTY OF CITIZENS TO HOLD OFFICE.

Children born to illegals who are in the U.S. may enter and reside legally in the country of their parents' nationality along with their parents. They are dual nationals, i.e. if Mexican they may enjoy all the benefits of Mexican nationality, including cheap tuition to colleges.

Best of both worlds, wouldn't you think. Essentially, in most important aspects, they might be considered citizens of both countries. They can come and go wherever they please unless we work on rescinding this stupid law.

It is definitly wrong to have dual citizenship and especially for politicians and Government officials, for the obvious reason it means they have dual loyalty. Their US loyalty is not number one. Israel is a foreign country and one that I and many consider a threat and one that yeilds way too much power over the U.S.A. Chertoff is a traitor.

I might add that Leiberman's brother is a Israeli citizen and Congressman Rahm Imanuel of Chicago is also a dual citizen of Israel.

Most people would consider dual citizenship totally unacceptable that is why these politicians don't broadcast that fact. and because of a pro Israeli bias in the news media they won't report on it.

I agree. I seriously doubt our founding fathers would have agreed with this either. Unless I am wrong about that? I mean they fought the king and many died to let us be our own country. I wish we would get rid of dual citizenship. I agree you can only serve one master.

I don't think dual citzenship is right for anyone. But just because your a citizen of our country does not mean you are loyal to it. Look at all the proMexicans that are American citizens, all the way up thru our system.

A few years ago Vicente Fox changed Mexico's dual citizenship laws to allow Mexican nationals who become US citizens to hold dual citizenship. It pains me to hear the Reconquistas like Alberto Morones bragging about their dual citizenship. US citizenship is meaningless if you are from Mexico. Advantage...Mexico!
