WASHINGTON
From the Drudge Report:
Hopes for a quick compromise on immigration were dealt a blow Tuesday after House Speaker Dennis Hastert said he wanted to take a "long look" at a Senate bill offering possible citizenship to millions of illegal immigrants.
Hastert said hearings on the Senate bill should be held before appointing anyone to a House-Senate committee to negotiate a compromise immigration bill. Later, he said he was unsure what the House's next move would be.
"We're going to take a long look at it," Hastert said late Tuesday."Send them Back." "Build a damn wall and be done with it."

What?
What is there to evaluate or consider? Can they not just shoot it down entirely?

Put the dam thing in the shredder and start from scratch!
It sounds like he's in our corner. I'll have to send him an email tomorrow to get my 2 cents worth in.<div>Thank you Governor Brewer!</div>

I don't understand why the legislature is not holding the president and senators accountable, it is my understanding that they can do that.

Also, Sensenbrenner said, that he himself often gets accused of influencing / swaying the other congressmens opinions. That also may have something to do with Hasterts statement.
But Pat Buchanan did say in an article that Hastert was liken to the
Pence Bill .Which I hope is not true, as it's just another form of Amnesty

Sounds like the House is going to chuck the damn thing in the end, but are making an attempt to look like they're evaluating the monstrosity first. If this holds up the bill then it's most likely a good thing. We will have time to work on all the "holdouts" and "undecideds". Can't let up on that.
If the military at the border have an impact on illegals sneaking in , and the fence project gets well underway, all the US will have to deal with is the newest crop of anchor babies. During the hiatus maybe some other critical story will break awakening the sleeping masses. Hooray for Hastert and (most of) the House !“Homeland Security? What Homeland Security ?”

Hi 31Scout,
May I suggest a small clarification?
Start (from scratch) a tougher border security and increase of criminal penalities for employers hiring illegals. The words "immigration" or "visa" or anything else to do with "paths" should never appear in such legislation. And deport the damn H-1Bs and L-1s! (by terminating that visa program)!
Congress and the mass media want to brainwash Americans into thinking "immigration" needs to be fixed. Only the border and employers' hiring practices need to be fixed(as we all know). How about suggesting felony convictions for CEOs of corporations that hire illegals?
What part of "We don't owe our jobs to India" are you unable to understand, Senator?
