    Rubio Against New Arizona Bill

Just heard that Rubio is now changing his view on illegal immigration. He says he does not support Arizona's new laws because immigration is the federal government's job.

I don't know about you guys, but anyone who mouths off when people are trying to get our immigration laws enforced, should never hold public office of any kind. I'm getting real sick of these traitors to the American people.

I agree. Let's see how fast his campaign takes a nose dive now.

He was ahead in the polls, but that could change now. I've tried to keep track of him and thought he was with us in illegal immigration, but I guess not.

Marco Rubio speaks out on AZ immigration law

    Here's his statement:

Our legal immigration system must continue to welcome those who seek to embrace America’s blessings and abide by the legal and orderly system that is in place. The American people have every right to expect the federal government to secure our borders and prevent illegal immigration. It has become all too easy for some in Washington to ignore the desperation and urgency of those like the citizens of Arizona who are disproportionately wrestling with this problem as well as the violence, drug trafficking and lawlessness that spills over from across the border.

States certainly have the right to enact policies to protect their citizens, but Arizona’s policy shows the difficulty and limitations of states trying to act piecemeal to solve what is a serious federal problem. From what I have read in news reports, I do have concerns about this legislation. While I don’t believe Arizona’s policy was based on anything other than trying to get a handle on our broken borders, I think aspects of the law, especially that dealing with ‘reasonable suspicion,’ are going to put our law enforcement officers in an incredibly difficult position. ****It could also unreasonably single out people who are here legally, including many American citizens. Throughout American history and throughout this administration we have seen that when government is given an inch it takes a mile.****

I hope Congress and the Obama Administration will use the Arizona legislation not as an excuse to try and jam through amnesty legislation, but to finally act on border states’ requests for help with security and fix the things about our immigration system that can be fixed right now – securing the border, reforming the visa and entry process, and cracking down on employers who exploit illegal immigrants.

I am so tired of pols spouting "it's a federal thing",well when the feds refuse to enforce laws already on the books it's a fed FAIL. AZ did the right thing in bringing it to the forefront. We want the feds to ENFORCE immigration laws instead of wasting time on another failure of amnesty!

Legal immigrants are PROUD to show their papers! LEGAL immigrants are tired of being undermined by illegal aliens.

We have 2 Republican choices in FL. Crist, who may change and run as an independent, and Rubio.I guess of the 2 Rubio says he wants our immigration laws enforced but I don't trust he will not change his tune when the House Hispanic Caucus corners him.

A Democrat named Meeks showed promise at first and spoke out against Illegal Immigration but now he has flipped and is their best friend.

I called Rubio's office and spoke to them and he is for closing the border down and is against amnesty.

I told him there are hundreds and thousands of conservatives on blogs across the nation right now backing off of Rubio because of this statement that "implies" it is ONLY the Fed's job and the states should not act to save their citizens.

I asked him to read the article in the American Thinker today.

They said they would get Rubio out to clarify his position today - they said he is definitely not for amnesty and he wants the border closed.

He thinks the situation in AZ is devasting and that the border should have been closed down and protected years ago.

So I would look for a clarification to a very "hard line" close the border stance soon.

According to his campaign he has never supported amnesty.

Please post it here if any one finds out diferently!

yes he did block illegal immigration while speaker of the house in FLA
Yeah, I remember posting a story concerning his blocking of illegal immigration bills in Florida. I don't think he is much different that most politicians - he says what he thinks the people want to hear. IMO, Rubio has the folks in Florida bamboozled in to believing he is something he isn't. Actions speak louder than words.

    Excerpt:

The one area – really the only area – where Rubio runs into trouble with conservatives is on the issue of immigration. In 2008, while Rubio was Speaker of the House, he blocked six bills that supporters of the bills say would have cracked down on illegal immigration.

"That will be your cross to bear," the radio host ominously warned him.

Among other things, those bills would have required state officials to check the status of anyone applying for government benefits, would have required state contractors to use the federal E Verify program, and would compelled local police to check the status of everyone they arrest and turn over anyone in the country illegally to the federal government.

During his time as Speaker, Rubio, the child of Cuban immigrants, avoided questions on immigration policy, saying, "There is nothing the state of Florida can do unilaterally to solve global warming. And there is nothing we can do unilaterally to solve immigration."

Today Rubio is trying to find a way to placate the far right of his party on immigration without alienating the very constituency he owes his political life to.

"My position has never been any different than it is right now," he said in an interview. "I don't view myself or our movement as an anti illegal immigration movement. I view it as a pro legal immigration movement."

Unfortunately amnesty means different things to different people. Some politicians will tell you it is not amnesty if they pay fines, back-taxes, learn English, and go to the back of the line. However, what they aren't telling you is that it will be our tax dollars paying for their language lessons and that the back of the line is right here in the United States - in other words - they will be legalized while they wait for citizenship. Give them a couple small hoops to jump through and all is forgiven. In my book that is amnesty!
