    Strange problem with google

    Friends,

This just started three days ago. Anytime I type in www.google.com the URL takes me to http://www.google.co.uk/ and I do not want the UK version of Google.

Can anyone think of why this is happening to me and how I might be able to make it stop?

Try this - I thinks its because you don't have the Http in front of it. Here's the link:

    http://www.google.com/

It may be that the latter is in your browser's memory.

the 'http://' just tells the browser you are looking for a URL. newer browsers now automaticly add that when approp. it may be google is over flowing and forwarding the extra load to a uk mirror.
    just IMHO

    W.,

Try clearing your address history. If you have the auto fill feature, in your browser address bar, it may be filling out the last part, even when you don't want it to.

Always a good idea to clear out your dns resolver cache at least once a week. Every place on the internet has an address just like your street address, only on the internet its all numbers like 192.168.1.1, 192.168.1.2 ETC. So when you type in www.alipac.us, your DNS resolver cache gets the number that corresponds to your name(from the internet post office) and stores it in the cache for later use so it doesn't have to get it again.

The reason its a good idea to clear it out at least once a week is that addresses can change, you may have gotten a bad number, or any number of other things. Computers aren't perfect ya know. Especially since Humans are the programers

    Using XP just,

    (1) Click Start
    (2) Run
    (3) Type in cmd
    (4) Press enter
    (5) Type in ipconfig (add space here) /flushdns
    (6) type in exit

Thats it. If you have another flavor of OS let me know and I will post instructions for it.

    The link works OK here.
Dump the cache and delete history. If you still get it try Spybot Search and Destroy, a free download.
The next step would be a program called Hijack This. Again free. It can be dangerous to delete items found by HT, but you're just looking for a Google entry to kill.

Same here, deleting history then using the Spy bot Search and Destroy usually takes care of any problems I am having.
