The residents of so-called sanctuary cities in California witnessed the trials of two illegal aliens who viciously murdered several victims in separate incidents, a law enforcement source in California told the Law Enforcement Examiner on Friday.

In two unrelated cases that illustrate the high price communities pay for sanctuary policies, two illegal aliens -- both with extensive criminal records -- were convicted of first-degree murder by juries this week in different parts of a border state that's actually prided itself on protecting illegal aliens, according to a legal watchdog group that investigates and exposes government corruption and criminal activity perpetrated by government officials.

In one case --in the what some call "The Mother of All Sanctuary Cities" -- a San Francisco a jury found Edwin Ramos, a renowned gang banger, guilty of three first-degree murder counts for the 2008 killings of a 48-year-old man and his two sons. Ramos had a lengthy criminal record at the time he murdered the family, but San Francisco sanctuary laws shielded him from deportation by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents.

"While President Barack Obama and his Attorney General Eric Holder harass and sue states and law enforcement agencies that enforce immigration law, they have failed to go after any city officials who refuse to comply with federal immigration laws such as notifying ICE agents regarding criminal aliens," said former NYPD detective and military intelligence officer Sidney Franes.

Judicial Watch obtained public records that revealed the San Francisco police knew Ramos was an active member of the notoriously violent MS-13 street gang and that he had numerous run-ins with police officers, including arrests for weapons and gang-related charges.

Furthermore, police knew Ramos was in the U.S. illegally yet released him after every encounter. In short, the records obtained by JW prove that donít-ask, donít-tell sanctuary policies protect illegal alien gang bangers and put American citizens at risk.

The famously leftist northern California city has long protected illegal immigrants and offered them costly public services that should be reserved for legal residents and citizens, according to Judicial Watch's Corruption Chronicles.

In fact, illegal aliens are assured through costly, Spanish-language advertisement campaigns that they will never be reported to federal law enforcement agents such as ICE, the HSI (Homeland Security Investigations), the U.S. Border Patrol or other agency that could initiate the deportation process.

San Francisco was officially proclaimed an illegal alien sanctuary city by its board of supervisors in 1989 and now lawmakers are taking it a huge step further by creating legislation to grant illegal aliens official city identification cards.

    Criminal Alien Pedro Espinoza

Meanwhile, a few hundred miles south in Los Angeles, another illegal immigrant gang banger, Pedro Espinoza, was also convicted of first-degree murder this week for gunning down a standout high school football player in 2008. Jurors deliberated for about four hours before reaching a verdict, according to the JW web site.

According to Judicial Watch, "Espinoza proudly sports a tattoo with the initials 'B.K,' which police say stands for Blood Killer.Ē

Espinoza had just completed a jail sentence for a previous felony when he murdered the 17-year-old star running back, Jamiel Shaw, as he walked home. The entire city of Los Angeles mourned the loss of the up-and-coming star athlete.

"What should have happened was prison officials should have contacted ICE prior to his release. But, no... they let him go out onto the streets to kill. Justice is taking a long nap in California," said police officer Iris Aquino of New York.

As with San Francisco, Los Angeles has strict policies banning law enforcement officers from inquiring about suspectsí immigration status. In this case it allowed a violent gang banger to gun down a talented young athlete who was being recruited by top colleges, said the JW blog.

Political activists and citizens are advocating Jamielís Law which will target gang members living in the City of Los Angeles illegally. Eventually, Jamielís Law will cover every city and every state in the United States of America. The only people who should be afraid of Jamielís Law are the illegal alien gangs, say the group's officials.

According to Judicial Watch, the watchdog group based in Washington, D.C., it has led -- and continues to lead -- a nationwide effort to eradicate donít-ask, donít-tell law enforcement policies like the ones that led to these horrific crimes.

In the public interest, Judicial Watch has filed lawsuits against police departments in Chicago, Los Angeles and Houston where officers are prohibited from inquiring about suspectsí immigration status.

    San Francisco – Sanctuary City

Mayor Gavin Newsom Has Blood On His Hands
    By Andrew Peterson
    For CoverUps.com

Writing for TownHall.com, Conservative commentator Michael Reagan delivers a scathing indictment of Mayor Gavin Newsom, whose misguided policies have turned San Francisco into a haven for illegal alien criminals, with tragic results.

    Reagan writes:

Three good men are dead thanks largely to San Francisco’s outrageous sanctuary-city policy, which forbids city authorities from notifying federal immigration authorities when they arrest illegal aliens for crimes they commit, and it’s time for President Bush to crack down on all the cities in the United States that follow this absurd policy.

On June 22, Anthony Bologna and his sons Michael and Matthew were shot to death by Edwin Ramos, 21, after a brief traffic incident when Anthony Bologna allegedly briefly blocked Ramos' car from making a left turn, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

Ramos, an alleged member of the vicious Mara Salvatrucha gang, known as MS-13, should never have been around to kill the three men, and wouldn’t have been – were it not for the city’s sanctuary-city policy. Ramos, an illegal immigrant, was found guilty of committing two felonies when he was 17 – involving a gang-related assault of a Municipal Railway passenger and the attempted robbery of a pregnant woman – yet was never surrendered by the city’s juvenile justice authorities to federal officials for possible deportation as required by federal law.

This was no accident. San Francisco municipal law prohibits a criminal's immigration status from being taken into consideration during the arrest procedure. Why? Because to do so would be discriminatory.

Ramos was taken to juvenile hall on charges of assault and participating in a street gang, and was later convicted in juvenile court and put in a shelter. Under federal law, he should have been referred to the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency (ICE) but the Juvenile Probation Department's policy for dealing with offenders stipulated that "probation officers shall not discriminate in any fashion against minors based on their immigration status."
For more than ten years, San Francisco refused as a matter of policy to turn illegal immigrant felons over to federal law enforcement authorities. It's a miracle that more crimes like this hadn't happened already.

Now that it has happened, San Francisco's uber-liberal mayor Gavin Newsom – who could very well be California's next governor – has taken belated action:

After a storm of protest following the slayings of the Bologna family men, ... Newsom belatedly rescinded that policy earlier this month following a report in the Chronicle that the city had flown a number of youths out of the country on its own, in possible violation of federal law, and then housed some in unlocked group homes from which they quickly escaped. His action came too late to save the lives of the Bologna men.

Sanctuary cities pose real dangers not only in the ongoing immigration policy battles our country fights with Mexico, but in matters relating to national security and the war on terror as well.

Sanctuary-city policies defy guidelines from the 9/11 Commission Report, which called on state and local authorities to help federal agencies crack down on illegal immigration. “There is a growing role for state and local law enforcement agencies [for the enforcement of immigration law],” the report stated. “They need more training and work with federal agencies so that they can cooperate more effectively with those federal authorities in identifying terrorist suspects.”

Instead, cities like San Francisco congratulate themselves, often with great fanfare, as safe havens for "migrants" – who are invariably presented as the down-trodden and the oppressed, and as worthy recipients of an endless stream of taxpayer-funded entitlements. All the while, the likelihood of a terrorist attack from an OTM ("other than Mexican) group that has slipped through our open borders goes up.

All of which, Reagan says, begs the question of federal intervention to undo the damage officials like Newsom have done.

President Bush should issue an executive order denying any federal funds to those cities which either officially or unofficially provide sanctuaries enabling illegal aliens who commit crimes to escape deportation. They need to learn there is a price to be paid for exposing their citizens to criminal activities by aliens here illegally.

    Our Take

There's an old saying from the Torah that says that he who shows kindness to the cruel shows cruelty to the kind. Cities like San Francisco and politicians like Gavin Newsom are so deeply immersed in their indiscriminately compassionate PC ideology that they've lost their capacity for moral reasoning.
As long as voters keep electing the Newsoms of the world, we can expect to suffer many more horrors like this one; horrors great and small, with the ranks of the victims growing by ones and twos, or by the hundreds and thousands, or more.
