Peru: 500 Thousand Undocumented Peruvians in U.S. could Benefit from TPS
(LIP-ir) -- President of Peru's APRA Parliamentary Cell (CPA), Luis Negreiros Criado, has requested that the Minister of Foreign Affairs, José Antonio GarcÃ*a Belaunde, begin the necessary paperwork to request that undocumented Peruvians in the United States be granted Temporary Protected Status (TPS).
The U.S. grants the permit known as the Temporary Protected Status (TPS) to countries that have suffered natural disasters or civil wars. The Temporary Protected Status is valid for one year and can be renewed.
This permit was granted to undocumented immigrants in the U.S. from El Salvador when the earthquake of 2001 struck the country and to Nicaragua when hurricane Mitch devastated parts of the country.
"We are aware that activists in the Peruvian community of Miami, represented by the Peruvian American Political Organization, are attempting to reach a fair agreement that will allow our countrymen to live and work in the United States legally, because of humanitarian reasons, as well as continue supporting their families in their native countries," stated Negreiros.
Negreiros declared that this would help thousands of Peruvians living in the U.S., especially those that are supporting family members in the affected regions. It is estimated that 500 thousand undocumented Peruvians could take advantage of the TPS, if it were granted.

They even have a letter for GW Bush..
http://www.perutps.com/formulario.php
--------------------------------
September, 2007
Honorable George W. Bush
President of the United States of America
The White House
1600 Pennsylvania Avenue
Washington, D.C.20500
Fax. 202-456-2461
Dear President Bush:
We sign this letter in support of all the efforts spearheaded by the "Peruvian American Political Organizations", "American Fraternity", and "Honduran Unity", and to kindly urge and request your utmost consideration to designate for a period of 18 months the humanitarian program "T.P.S.", (temporary protected status), for Peruvians in lieu of the aftermath of a magnitude 7.9 earthquake which struck Peru on August 15, 2007, causing widespread and tragic damage to the country. Accordingly, the situation in Peru makes returning to the country dangerous for Peruvians nationals in the United States of America.
The devastating natural disaster has left hundreds of people dead; it destroyed tens of thousands of homes and left tens of thousands of Peruvians displaced. In the city of Pisco the destruction is so severe that the Peruvian Government estimates that over 85% of the buildings in that city alone were destroyed. It has destroyed innumerable lives and caused significant damage to their infrastructure and economy.
We would like to thank you, Mr. President, for your support in the past for the designation and extension of TPS to other similarly situated deserving nations such as Honduras, Nicaragua, and El Salvador among others and respectfully request you designate TPS for Peru, making another compassionate contribution towards the lengthy recovery and reconstruction process of a proven friend and ally.
May God bless you, your family, staff and the United States of America!
Thanking you in advance,
Sincerely,
-

What were the 500,00+ doing here in the 1st place! They weren't displaced because of the earth quake. What an excuse to butt right in and take advantage of a bad situation. They need to be deported so they can help rebuild their towns.
RIP Butterbean! We miss you and hope you are well in heaven.-- Your ALIPAC friends
