Thread: My response on "blame game" new stories

This is what I have written out as a response for "blame game" news stories, and post in their comment sections. It seems to get good responses from both sides of the aisle. Feel free to use it if you like:

I would not blame heated political speech. Why? Because it doesn't compute. You might as well blame a book, art exhibit, heavy metal song or video game. This is a very slippery slope. I really hope people come to their senses and stop blaming what someone SAID for this crime.

If the squawking keeps up, we could end up losing some of our freedom of speech to "fix" things....

What about responsibility for self? Can Mr. A claim he was made to kick John Doe in the behind while standing in line at the bank because of the stupid drivel a bystander was spouting into a cell phone right next to him? Nope. Perhaps a mental health problem caused him to be unable to restrain himself, but that isn't the fault of the person on the phone, is it?

How about we get indignant about a true causative factor in this tragedy? The lack of real forensic mental health monitoring and care in this country. I used to work at a prison as a nurse. We had a whole unit full of seriously dangerous mentally ill men like the Tuscon shooter. We could not get the local forensic mental health hospital to take them. They kept sending them back. No monitoring was done of them when released, except for regular parole stuff... There are tons of dangerously mentally ill people out there who are unmonitored or treated, and next to nothing in place to try to do a thing about it. It would be nice if this tragedy led to something positive, a growing public awareness of the mental health crisis...

Too bad we have too many politicians wanting to point fingers and a media bent on bending the truth, instead of,as you say,helping the ones that need attention out there.

You know why? Probably because today everything is based on how much money (profits) it can make for someone or some company.

I think it's disgraceful that some politicians and medidiots want to exploit a personal tragedy for the sake of political gain. These people we are dealing with are pure evil.
