NYC Workers To Receive Special Grief Services Due To Trump’s Win

The City of New York will now provide counseling services and “safe spaces” for local government employees.

The assistance is being offered to help the workforce deal with the election-year stress that has been brought on by Donald Trump’s recent election.

Mayor Bill de Blasio sent out an email to staff informing them of the new services available to them. The communication provided mental health resources for those who are “feeling distressed or vulnerable following the election results.”

Since the election, the New York mayor has been speaking to residents in efforts to reassure them that his administration is working to shield them from any harmful policies that President-elect Trump may enact, such as his often touted immigration policies.

Mayor de Blasio said, “We have seen the concerns expressed on social media and we are monitoring them closely.”

The New York Post addressed the email communication sent out to staff with City Hall press secretary, Eric Phillips. He said, “The post-election period has been anxiety-producing for many people, understandably. When you throw the holidays into that, it can be a very difficult time for those coping with mental health challenges.”

The new efforts are being added to the cities pre-existing mental health push, “Thrive NYC”. The initiative already has the cooperation of several agencies such as the Mayor’s Office of Immigrant Affairs, the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene and the Department of Education, as well as Deputy Mayor for Strategic Policies Richard Buery, who is overseeing the city’s mental health initiative.
