Lone Protester- The Real Tragedy in South Carolina
10/14/08

I read about the ICE bust in Greenville last week with interest because I live in South Carolina. Out of a workforce of 825 employees 775 of them were working using fake or stolen documents. Over 330 were arrested and charged. A spokesman for The House of Raeford chicken processing plant actually had the gall to say that they didn’t know they were illegal. Boy, would I would like to see him say that hooked up to a lie detector.
Since then I have read the usual sob stories in my local papers about the tragedy presently unfolding for the 330 illegal aliens in this case. I am supposed to feel sorry for them because they broke some laws and finally got caught. According to the reporters’ line of thought it is the criminals and their lives that matter and not the citizens of the state. Someone needs to tell these reporters that after reading the millionth sob story that they definitely get old. The fact is they steal jobs that are badly needed by Greenville citizens which has an unemployment rate of 21.8%. I had to research that for myself because all the articles about the bust left out that inconvenient fact. The liberal reporters couldn’t take time out from writing their sob stories to show how the real victims of this tragedy are affected.
I watched the televised debate between Senator Lindsey Graham and his opponent Bob Conley Saturday night. Senator Graham incidentally, lives about 20 miles from that business and I would bet him any amount of money that his hometown of Seneca, SC has a high unemployment rate also. But Senator Graham could really give a damn about that. In his global economy it isn’t his constituents that matter, it is the money that can be made by his business friends. I think that Bob Conley should study the rates of unemployment for the Senator’s hometown and how many of the illegals arrested live there. And slam Lindsey Graham out of the ballpark with them. It is because of lax immigration laws fully supported by the Senator that 775 illegal aliens are hard at work at one business in his home district while South Carolina citizens are forced onto the unemployment rolls.
That is the real tragedy behind the ICE bust. While Senator Graham gallivants around the world endorsing a global economy his state is invaded by half a million illegal aliens. The real tragedy isn’t about the illegal aliens, it is about the lives of thousands of South Carolinians that are destroyed because they can’t find work. The sob stories shouldn’t be about the criminals but about the people whose jobs were stolen and Senator Graham is directly responsible for that. His policies allowed one business in his home district to employ 775 illegal workers and he should lose his seat because of it.
This is how it is in South Carolina, I didn’t work yesterday or today and am not sure about the rest of the week yet one South Carolina business can employ hundreds of illegal workers. While Senator Graham pretends that everything is hunky-dory in his global economy kingdom his constituents have to worry about how to put food on their tables. And he should have to pay a price for it.
