E-Verify Amendments Added To Stimulus Bill

E-Verify Amendments Added to House Appropriations Stimulus Bill
    Friday, January 23, 2009, 7:49 AM

The House Appropriations Committee approved a stimulus bill on Thursday with two key amendments. Rep. Ken Calvert successfully added an amendment that would extend E-Verify for four years. Rep. Jack Kingston successfully added another amendment that would require any contractors awarded work through stimulus money to verify the employment eligibility of their workers through E-Verify.

The Appropriations Committee passed the stimulus plan by a 35-22 vote on Thursday.

In November, former President Bush signed a continuing resolution, extending E-Verify until March 6, 2009. But unless the worker verification tool administered by the Department of Homeland Security is extended, it will expire.

Rep. Calvert has already introduced H.R. 19 this year that calls for a mandatory use of E-Verify. Analysis of this bill can be found on the NumbersUSA Proposed Bills page.

As I previously mentioned I kept hounding Rep Kingston (our representative next door to our district but also represents us in a lot of issues) and my congressman Rep Barrow who listened. Both Kingston (R) and Barrow (D) are rated as A by numbers USA. Barrow is a very conservative Democrat. We are lucky to have 2 here which do represent us.

This is not enough for the next four years.

I-9 forms at your State Unemployment Office are NOT being E-VERIFIED.

So all the contractor will have to say is that I hired through my local State Unemployment Office?

I have started calling all of Congress starting with the A's, and finished calling North Carolina elected Senators and Congress people.

Someone do the B through Z and your own state. Let's keep up the heat on E-Verify.

Post which group of Congress and state you are targeting. Do them all...We CAN.. :P

I have been researching and see it is watered down. I have said along the b.s. Ponzi scheme called a stimulus will be an illegal alien jobs and benefits giveaway which has already started with the health care measure. It is nothing but payback for unions, big labor and corporate American who returned these schmucks to Congress and put one in the Oval Office. Once again suffering and struggling Americans will be forced to subsidize cheap labor while losing their homes, jobs, pensions and health care while this congress leaves them to tumble in midstream.........
