Grijalva, McClung set to debate Oct. 13

U.S. Rep. Raúl Grijalva has agreed to debate Republican challenger Ruth McClung, after her camp hand-delivered a request for a face-off before the Nov. 2 election.

Grijalva's campaign responded Friday asking that a third-party, nonpartisan organization sponsor and run the debate. He also asked that all candidates for the District 7 House seat be invited.

By the midafternoon, the terms had been agreed upon. The Tucson Hispanic Chamber of Commerce will host the Oct. 13 debate at Pima Community College's Desert Vista Campus, 5901 S. Calle Santa Cruz, beginning at 5 p.m.

The announcement comes on the heels of a McClung-sponsored poll showing she was behind by just seven points. The poll of 450 voters tallied 42 percent Grijalva, 35 percent McClung, with 23 percent of voters undecided.

It was done by American Political Consultants, which bills itself as supporting "Pro-Life and Pro-Family candidates for public office."
