MATT

Dear friends

As the new administration gets down to business, we begin to get a sense of how they'll operate and what their priorities will be. This week, in an interview with NPR's Madeleine Brand, we get another glimpse of Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano's take on immigration policy and how her department fits into the big picture.

In the interview, Napolitano answers some straightforward questions beginning with: "As governor of Arizona … you signed the toughest law in the nation against employers who knowingly hire illegal immigrants. How will you change federal immigration policy?

Interestingly, Secretary Napolitano states twice in her NPR interview that Congress needs to act on immigration reform. MATT.org couldn't agree more. MATT.org applauds Secretary Napolitano's call for Congress to take action, and MATT.org welcomes the opportunity to work with Secretary Napolitano and Congress to enact sensible immigration solutions.

UPDATE: Two weeks ago, we invited you, our readers, to share your personal stories on how backlogs and other issues of inefficiency within DHS have affected your lives. This week, we're sharing some of the stories we received and we're counting on YOU to continue to take action and keep sending us your stories so that we can encourage Secretary Napolitano to take these personal stories into account as she moves forward at DHS.
