Former Rep. Michele Bachmann, R-Minn., is considering running for the recently vacated U.S. Senate seat held by Al Franken.
“I’ve had people contact me and urge me to run for that Senate seat,” Bachmann said recently on televangelist Jim Bakker's television show. “And the only reason I would run is for the ability to take these principles into the United States Senate and to be able to advocate for these principles.”

Bachmann, a religious conservative who served four terms in Congress, said she and her husband are considering the option to run for Franken’s Senate seat, but said there’s “a price you pay” when running for a political office of that stature.

“The question is, is it—should it be me? Should it be now? But there’s also a price you pay. And the price is bigger than ever because the swamp is so toxic,” Bachmann said, noting her and her husband “aren’t money people.”

The one-time Republican presidential candidate said it'd be pricey to "defend yourself ... You can have frivolous lawsuits filed against you all the time and then what do you do?"

“If you’re going against the tide in D.C., if you’re trying to stand for biblical principles in D.C. and you stick your head up out of the hole, you know, the blades come whirring and they try to chop you off,” Bachmann said. “This is not an easy place to be.”

Bachmann unsuccessfully ran for the Republican Party nomination in the 2012 presidential race, and is a deeply conservative Republican with a history of making controversial statements, including suggesting in 2012 that the federal government was being overtaken by the Muslim Brotherhood.

Franken officially resigned from his Senate seat Tuesday after numerous sexual misconduct allegations were made against him late last year. Minnesota Lt. Gov. Tina Smith, who was selected to take over Franken's seat, is expected to be sworn in Wednesday morning.

Michele Bachmann running for Senate would be awesome! We used to endorse here when she was in Congress and we need her back in DC fighting against illegal immigration and amnesty!

Bachmann's don't have big money, but their counseling practice probably is not too shabby. Better than most of the others you would find in what is now one of the most liberal states, but my impression is that she'a a bit of a dim bulb.

I hope she runs. She would be an asset to the "America First" agenda and a big win for the American people against illegal immigration and amnesty.

We don't know what she thinks about Trump's DACA amnesty plan yet.

I like Michelle Bachmann, I don't agree with all of her social positions, but I like her positions on illegal immigration and the FairTax. She was a co-sponsor of the FairTax legislation for many years. She mostly supported free trade agreements, but I'm sure she's learned the lesson there as many have, thanks to Trump. She voted for all the free trade agreements. But so did Jeff Sessions. They just didn't understand the damage and reality of these complex agreements and bought into the BS. Whether she can win a statewide race, I just don't know. We need someone who not only supports our positions, but who can win.

Trump almost won Minnesota, if he'd had 1 more day to hold a big rally in Minnesota, he could have won Minnesota, so if Trump gets behind her, she might win. Trump's going to have a great record by next November on issues important to most voters in Minnesota, tax, economy, trade, jobs, wages, stock market, infrastructure, crime, gangs, international issues, etc. I don't think illegal immigration is as big an issue there as it is in some areas so her being such a strong advocate on the illegal immigration issue makes her a good candidate for US, if she can win.

JohnDoe2, I have not heard Michelle Bachmann recently address a DACA amnesty, however she had an "A+" grade from NumbersUSA.
