I did a search and found this. I think it shows some interesting points. It might not be a bad idea to promote illegals to US citizenships if they serve in the military.
The war in Iraq is a good opportunity for many that would qualify.
I disagree. I think this is a security concern. They are not enlisting to serve this country, they are enlisting to cheat the system. You wouldn't be saying that if a bunch of Iraqis were down at your local recruiter's office signing up. I don't want to train anyone that might turn on us. We have enought home grown problems like Tim McVeigh for instance.

The US military does not knowingly take illegal aliens. The only foreign nationals that are allowed to enlist are those that are already green card holders.
As an active duty serviceman I have only one response to this suggestion

Furthermore, inviting them into the military would create other problems too. I don't think it's a secret that many of them either have poor English skills or none at all and the majority of them are uneducated. Are these the sort of troops you would want to command or cover your back? As a retired military member, take my word for it, they would create more problems than they would solve. I have no wish to see our military forces degraded by a group of law breaking, non-English speaking, uneducated folks thinking the military is their ticket to citizenship. Currently the requirement to serve in the military includes a high school diploma or equivalency certificate. I would suspect you wouldn't find many illegal immigrants that would fill the bill. Do you propose we make an exception? Additionally, many of our kids serving today have had fathers, grandfather, etc. serve and they know the history of our wars and country. While these things aren't necessary, they do help to instill a sense of patriotism and pride in country that would be missing with the illegals. Once again, not many illegals would fall into that category. In other words, I'd have to question their allegiance to country and flag!

Let them enlist known gang members and sharpen their skills for drug wars,revolution!The gangs are already using grenades,AK-47s so what do they want them to form armies?Is this a set up or what, train jungle fighters and in the mean time have the boarder guards retreat?

Bad idea from the get go. Everybody has an initial negative feeling about this as soon as they hear about it and for good reason. It is important to pay attention to that.
I see it as dangerous and bad for the moral of our soldiers and the American people. As we all know our moral is important when defending our country.
No way. Come legally. Learn English. Assimilate. Learn to love and respect the USA. Then serve.
Nothing less.
Green Card holders who join the military already have an opportunity to an accelerated path to citizenship. That program has been around for a while. I believe that the article you posted suggests giving Green Cards to illegal aliens so they can join the military. That is just wrong and like otheres have said, presents some security concerns.Quote:
