Romney: 'The economy is coming back'

Romney: 'The economy is coming back'

So he said at a campaign stop in Springfield, Ill., this morning. POLITICO's Reid Epstein:

At his first stop on the eve of the Illinois GOP primary, Mitt Romney told a crowd at a nostalgia-themed diner in Springfield that the economy is indeed recovering and will continue to do so.

“I believe the economy is coming back, by the way," Romney said. "We’ll see what happens. It’s had ups and downs. I think it’s finally coming back. The economy always comes back after a recession, of course. There’s never been one that we didn’t recover from. The problem is this one has been deeper than it needed to be and a slower recovery than it should have been, by virtue of the policies of this president. Almost everything he’s done has made it harder for this economy to recover.”

I think he is speaking pre maturely but I hope that is happening, I keep thinking we are headed for another dip. Things are still REALLY WOBBLY from what I am seeing with lots of people still losing jobs and homes.

The sooner the economy recovers to pre-recession levels the better. Who here hopes it becomes a non-issue leading up to the elections so that the topic of discussion can turn to illegal immigration? I do. Unfortunately it's looking like Romney will be the nominee and so we can bet he'll want to "flip" on the issue to turn around his low numbers among Hispanics. He'll believe most voters won't care or notice and so he'll have nothing to lose.
