    Press Release of Senator Reid
REID CELEBRATES HISPANIC HERITAGE MONTH, URGES LATINOS TO VOTE

    Friday, September 15, 2006

Washington, DC — Senate Democratic Leader Harry Reid today issued the following statement in celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, which starts today and ends on October 15th.

“During Hispanic Heritage Month, we honor the Hispanic community and pay tribute to the extraordinary contributions that Hispanics make to the United States year-round.

“Hispanic-Americans are the fastest growing ethnic group in the United States. Through their hard work, dedication to family, and commitment to community, Latinos have helped make our nation stronger and more vibrant. Hispanics’ contributions in the arts, the economy and politics have had a lasting impact in our nation’s fabric. Latinos are also the most highly decorated group in American military history. In addition, Hispanic purchasing power exceeds $800 billion, with the fastest growing sector of our economy being Latina owned firms.

“Yet despite all of these contributions, the Bush Administration and the Republican controlled Congress have given their backs to Latino families. They have done nothing to address the fact that 1 out of every 3 Latinos is uninsured. They have also sat by while Latinos continue to face the highest dropout rates in the country. Whether it is their shameful anti-immigrant rhetoric and their refusal to enact comprehensive immigration reform or choosing to give more tax cuts to the rich instead of raising the minimum wage, this GOP Congress is out of touch with Latino values.

“It is time for a new direction. As César Chávez once said: ‘If you are outraged at conditions, then you cannot possibly be happy until you do everything you can to change them.’ That is why the Latino community must go out and register to vote this November and make their voices heard.

“Democrats have a proven record of fighting for the issues that Hispanics and all American working families care about. We will continue to fight to raise the minimum wage, to improve the quality of our children’s education, and to expand access to affordable healthcare for all. Democrats also believe that the only way to have real security at our borders is to reform our broken immigration system in a way that strengthens enforcement, provides a pathway to earned citizenship for undocumented workers, and is fair to taxpayers and American workers.

“Hispanic Americans deserve better. They deserve a government that listens to their concerns and addresses their fundamental needs. On Hispanic Heritage Month, let us celebrate the enormous contributions that Latinos make to our nation. And let us recommit ourselves to the struggle to achieve equality and justice for all.”

While I was emailing on his web site about where the outrage is from the Dems on having that idiot from Iran and Chavez spewing their hate speeches at the U. N., I found this.

I wonder if Sen. Reid also recognizes that Cesar Chavez was a staunch opponent of illegal immigration? (as it undermined the folks already in his union by depressing wages, etc...)

That is why the Latino community must go out and register to vote this November and make their voices heard.
Which 'Latino community' Senator Reid - the legal one or the illegal one? If you're suggesting that illegals needs to vote, then you're actively aiding and abetting a Federal crime... as non-citizens are prohibited from voting in any US election.

He's a Fake....a few years ago he was adamantly OPPOSED to illegal immigration. Now he's for it. He almost made himself cry believing his own BS about how wrong he was before. (Yeah....those gold mines from the OBL would be enough to flip flop and fake a tear over).

Harry Reid does not seem to be representing all of the people of Nevada.
I just called his office and had 5-6 minute chat with his staffer. I used PhredE's well made points.

Knowing Harry Reid, he'd really rather be quoting Hugo Chavez.

One thing I've noticed when I registered to vote here in Atlanta GA: I did NOT have to produce any real prrof of identity, much less proof that I was an American citizen.

Oh no, Harry Reid and Hugo Chavez have nothing in common. Harry Reid is an Open Borders Globalist "Great Continent Nation" guy. Hugo is opposed to Open Borders, Globalism, FTAA and merging nations.

Ironically, Hugo Chavez is a friend of our movement to save our nation, because he wants to save his.

Hugo is also very Pro-American People....just very Anti-Bush and Anti-Vincente Fox.

Be on the Alert....we have friends of our nation and people in the strangest of places these days.

I for one don't want friends like Chavez or loony toon from Iran.

But I am for getting rid of the U.N., they always vote against America, but they sure want our money, as well as all other foreign countries...always got their hands out, and will knife us in the back.

There are several countries working right now, to bring America down, economically...China, India, Iran, Venezuela, etc.

This will happen if we continue to buy foreign products, especially Chinese products.

We should never accept emigrants from any of these countries, you never know if they really want to assimilate, or use us, or steal military secrets.

Kick out the U.N., and half of those diplomats that are in NY!

Here is why the "world" won't sanction Iran:

Iran Pays Off China, Russia, France and Germany

There’s a strong economic incentive behind the U.N. Security Council and Germany’s opposition to American calls for sanctions on Iran over its nuclear program — billions of dollars in trade.

The United States has little to lose if sanctions are imposed. America imports only about $100 million of goods from Iran, mostly rugs, nuts and juice, while exporting about $55 million in cigarettes, pharmaceuticals, and wood pulp.

But total trade between Iran and permanent Security Council members Russia, China, and France, plus Germany, is expected to top $22 billion this year, up from $18 billion last year, The Wall Street Journal reports.

China’s exports to Iran are up 25 percent this year. Chinese companies sold nearly $400 million worth of air conditioners and other machinery in the first six months of 2006, plus $300 million in trucks and other vehicles.

In addition, China gets around 18 percent of its crude oil from Iran — $15 billion worth — and dozens of Chinese companies are engaged in construction work in Iran.

    Story Continues Below

Germany is Iran’s largest supplier of foreign goods, with $5.4 billion in exports last year. Iran buys German steel, and automaker DaimlerChrysler is planning a Mercedes-Benz plant in Iran.

Germany’s chamber of commerce claims that severe economic sanctions on Iran could cost Germany 10,000 jobs.

France exported $2.33 billion in goods last year. This month a Tehran vehicle manufacturer announced that it will begin selling to Russia cars that it builds in Iran in cooperation with France’s PSA Peugeot-Citroen, according to the Journal.

Russia is building Iran’s first nuclear power plant, a $1 billion project, and has agreed to a $700 million deal to sell air-defense missile systems to Iran.

The Journal reports that these commercial ties, along with Iran’s position as holder of the second-largest oil reserves, "put a built-in limit on how far industrial powers will go.”

And a senior U.S. official concedes: "Anything that really restricts trade will be hard, if not impossible, to get.”

But Nicholas Burns, the State Department’s undersecretary for political affairs, maintains that American allies "understand that sanctions may very well be necessary to counter Iran’s drive for a nuclear weapons capability.”

Hmmm....and this is our fault because??????????

Why on earth are we Americans supposed to take responsibility for Latinos having the highest dropout rate in the country? What? Are we supposed to cart them to school in a gold-studded limousine every day?

And insurance? Is it my fault that 1 out of every 3 Latinos is uninsured?

It just burns me up that Reid and others like him want to blame all the illegal aliens faults and failings on Americans. Could it be, just possibly, that they have the highest dropout rates in the country because they're lazy and unmotivated???

Could it be that they're uninsured because they're here illegally and have no right to insurance?
Calderon was absolutely right when he said...."Where there is a Mexican, there is Mexico".
