Thread: OFIR's Initiative's filed

OFIR members and supporters:

On April 23, Oregonians for Immigration Reform filed three initiatives with office of the Oregon Secretary of State.

The first initiative addresses Oregon driver licenses. Our initiative requires that all driver license applicants show proof of legal presence and a valid, verified Social Security number. A driver license issued on a temporary basis would expire on the date that the holder is no longer legally in the U.S. The chief petitioners are Senator Bruce Starr, Representative Linda Flores and OFIR President Jim Ludwick.

The second initiative would require that all first time voter registration applicants provide proof of U.S. citizenship. The chief petitioners are Representative Kim Thatcher, Representative Linda Flores and Jim Ludwick.

The third initiative would require that state and local government officials and agencies, including all law enforcement officials and agencies, shall cooperate and assist federal officials in the enforcement of federal immigration laws. In essence this initiative would supercede ORS.181.850. The chief petitioners are Rep. Kim Thatcher, Rep. Linda Flores and Jim Ludwick.

We will keep you abreast of the status of these initiatives. It will be a while before we can circulate the petitions. Meanwhile please continue to collect signatures on the English immersion initiative. When you have a completed signature sheet please send it in. If you need more signature sheets let us know.

For Oregon, this is a major step. It is so hard here for those of us who have firm beliefs in enforcement of our laws, to get any action from our state government.

Oregonians for Immigration Reform, have been hugely instrumental in making some big waves with the state and with individual politicians. They have held protests at the Mexican consulate (we attended that one) and at day labor work sites. They were holding protests as well at the Mexican Consulates Carousel of Information sites, which they were not only handing out their bogus ID Consular cards (which the illegals have been allowed to use to get licenses and help from the state), also the state was sending representatives from various state agencies, on state paid time no less, to disseminate information to the illegals about how to apply for state benefits, and how to apply for workmand comp., and on like that.

When the pressue got too hot, the governor called off all state employees from going to those carousels of information. To my knowledge, they no longer attend (unless it is on the sneak).
