GOP lawmaker decries illegal alien payments

As we celebrate our national Independence Day holiday in New Hampshire this year, illegal aliens have a special reason to celebrate.

On Wednesday, June 24, the New Hampshire House of Representatives voted to allow illegal aliens – or must we say "undocumented visitors?" – to collect payments up to $25,000 per person from the state-run crime victims' assistance fund.

Every Republican state representative in the two House districts covering Amherst and Mont Vernon voted against that legislation,

and the two Democratic representatives from those two towns voted to extend this new right to illegal aliens.
(Go to the state legislative Web site at www.gencourt.state.nh.us/nhgcroll calls/ and look up the roll call for House Bill 601 to confirm).

Their pro-illegal-alien vote came even after it was pointed out to them in debate that over the next two-year state budget cycle, payments out of the fund will likely deplete it and prevent it from assisting all New Hampshire citizens who are victims of crime.

If you cannot find it in your heart to express your best wishes to Reps. Shannon Chandley, D-Amherst, and Linda Foster, D-Mont Vernon, this national holiday, perhaps their newfound friends will surface long enough to do so.

And you thought they were up in Concord just to raise taxes.
Rep. Bill O'Brien
