BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) – Alabama's new immigration law is brewing a storm of controversy. One thing both sides agree on: this is the broadest and strictest law in the country.

La Gracia in Center Point is the only Spanish speaking Episcopal Church in the area. But, there's a new fear in the congregation.

Rev. Dr. Hernan Afanador says, “There is a lot of fear in the people, the Hispanics and the Mexicans, they don't want to be deported by the immigration authorities.

The reverend says on any given Sunday church attendance was at about 100 members, however ever since the immigration legislation was introduced, that number has drastically declined.

“They are really afraid because before the law there were about 100 people coming to service, now only 15,â€

I am having a difficult time figuring out why a Christian Church would refuse to obey the Law, when it was ordered through Christian doctrine, to obey the law of the land they occupy. Churches are Sanctuaries, yes, but not meant to be Havens for law breakers.

What motivates large congregational denominations like the Catholic Church or the Southern Baptist Church is often debated as being compassionate on the needy.

But this comes at the expense of violating the law, and also being an accomplice to those who do.

    Where does it end?

Romans 13:1-7 - Paul reminds Christians that they must pay their taxes and respect worldly authority wherever possible.

1 Timothy 2:1,2 - Paul urges Timothy to pray for authorities that the believers may live peaceful lives unhindered by persecution.

Titus 3:1 - Paul encourages believers to submit to rulers and authorities and to be obedient to what is good.

I guess they dont take that last verse to heart. I guess they think illegals breaking the law is for the good.

When these churches are compassionate for the illegals, don't they realise the illegal is displacing an American citizen in the workforce????

    "Pass the plate around"
I ask myself who is donating the most money to the Church?
Big farming, Big business, La Raza, etc...

All these Churches are grubbin' for cash!
File a IRS complaint form 13909 it's easy and quick!
The more people who file these forms in they're neighborhoods, the more we're going to shut these so called $$Churches$$ the hell up!
