The emptiness and despair alluded to here is not caused by Americans not being able to fantasize because they have lost hope. It is because this nation has willingly allowed its moral compass to be thrown into the depths of depravity and political corruption has filled the vacuum once occupied by our national conscience.

If you ask the average American today what the word "reprobate" means, they couldn't begin to guess the meaning of it.

Secularism has morphed into socialism which has consumed our ability to know the difference between right and wrong. This is why Americans don't care anymore.

True. But we also have school system, K thru PHD that continuously suppresses individualism, free speech and thought, and development of problem solving skills while simultaneously pumping propaganda into the students' heads. We have national politicians openly against the US Constitution (in both parties), a President who says the US is no longer great, exceptional, just greedy and lucky. We also have a mainstream media more focused on sustaining the propaganda fed to the students by continuing to feed it to them as they become parents themselves.

Well we may be greedy, but no more so than any other on the planet. Greed is a human thing. As for luck, damn right if you are talking about the founders of this country. They studied and knew the strengths and weaknesses of previous democracies and republics and built as good a plan and system for us to avoid those pitfalls that could have possibly been developed. But the best tools in the world can not repair a car or build a house or maintain a nation if the they are left hanging on the wall unused. To use the tools requires training and experience and a full understanding of what each tool is used for, its strengths, weakness, and potential hazards. Unfortunately we have far too many ignorant people in government at all levels who either do not how to use the tools our founding fathers left us, do not understand them and so misuse them, or find that use of these tools obstructs them from their own greedy, hypocritical agendas. Ultimately we the people must hold our elected officials accountable if we are to fix any of this. November 2010 was a start. November 2012 is a major opportunity. And grass roots movements such as the tea party movements across the country are major reasons why I have no tyet lost hope nor dropped into despair.

It has been my experience virtually my entire life, that when you can put problems into the hands of the right people, with the necessary skills, the attitude to get the job done and get it done professionally it is amazing what they can accomplish. I have seen problems and issues fixed that many said could not be fixed, and accomplishments achieved that some would say were impossible. That is because exceptional Americans were doing the planning and the real work, and the less exceptional ones were backing away from the challenge were willing to throw in the towel.
