Mexico's leftist candidate backs army in drug war

Mexico's leftist candidate backs army in drug war
NUEVO LAREDO, Mexico (Reuters) - The leftist candidate in Mexico's presidential race vowed on Saturday to give more power to the army to fight violent drug gangs, which he said have hopelessly corrupted the country's police force.

Mexico has been in the grip of a drug war between rival cartels since last year and some 1,500 people have been shot, beaten or suffocated to death as bands of gunmen battle for control of the lucrative cocaine, heroin and marijuana trade.

"I'm going to create a legal initiative to reform the constitution and give more power to the army in the war against organized crime," Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador told supporters in Nuevo Laredo, a city of 300,000 people that is on the front line of the turf war.

Failed attempts by past presidents to purge the country's top law enforcement officials of the influence of wealthy narco bosses make it clear they are a lost cause, he said.

"There has been enough experimenting," Lopez Obrador said. "Every six years they try to clean up the attorney general's office and it ends up completely infiltrated and totally involved in illegal acts."

The army is already key in what President Vicente Fox has dubbed Mexico's "mother of all battles" against drug gangs from the western state of Sinaloa and the local Gulf cartel.

Fox's six-year term ends this year and Lopez Obrador, who promises to make the country's poor his priority, holds second place in opinion polls ahead of the July 2 vote.

Mexico's police forces are riddled with corruption.

The entire city police force in Nuevo Laredo was suspended last year to investigate apparent links to drug cartels, and many of those officers were later dismissed.

Also last year, the government acknowledged that hundreds of members of an elite police force modeled on the United States' Federal Bureau of Investigation had been bought by drug gangs and eight of them were charged with kidnapping.

Many experts consider Mexico's military, which is better equipped to shoot it out with heavily armed drug gangs, to be more honest than municipal, state and federal police.

But troops, including an elite anti-drug commando unit called the Zetas, have also defected to narco gangs.

Drug gang violence has traditionally been concentrated in Mexico's northern states along the U.S. border, but it is steadily increasing in other regions, including the resort town of Acapulco, which in recent months has seen grenade attacks and beheadings of police officers.

A Mexican army with more power. Yup, just what we need on our border.
If that guy is elected president, we'll have Mexican army incursions all the way to North Dakota.

What a real treat. Only HALF the story is told, as always!

First, a little personal background on me. I served 14 months of my four-year military enlistment working as part of a drug extradition task force called "Joint Task Force Bravo" in Honduras. The job was to counter the DRUG CARTELS shipping in narcotics through Central America Northward into the United States.

I have news for people. These folks are extremely violent, and have superior firepower compared to our very own border enforcement personnel and even the National Guardsmen who will be going down there! Not to mention, the amount of money involved for these sinister and violent people is so extraordinary, they can buy literally any kind of weapon, including weapons of mass destruction.

Now that I should have gotten your attention.. the other half of the story not found in that news article is that what those drug cartels and gangs are fighting over which is so "lucrative" are pathways being used to smuggle these narcotics into the United States.

Ever been to Central America? Did you know that our own military intelligence forces were able to purchase the services of Central American soldiers and gang members for a mere $5,000 in cash money? They were "purchased" to perform certain functions for our intelligence agencies and they would do as told for a mere $5,000 cash money in U.S.D.

Ever been to Central America? Did you know that you can buy any type of weapon for dirt cheap in many cases? As a military presence, many of us were stunned at HOW MUCH AMERICAN PRODUCED WEAPONRY was for sale by drug cartels and gang members! They were better armed than our own military forces! Luckily, they didn't know how to use such armaments as productively as we did.

Another caveat I'll bet many people don't know: trucks full of such weaponry is being quietly smuggled into the U.S. across our borders. Where is it all going? Take a wild guess.

I am not permitted to share anything further with anyone. Just know that there is much more going on than even people on THIS board even realize. And it really will be a surprise when things really get going here.

I fear for our nation! I fear for our people as they slumber. I am sincerely stunned and angered that I cannot provide any further information on these subjects. But rules are rules - both on this board and from a military standpoint.

There are some folks out there who are labelled 'alarmist' when the "alarms" are uncalled for. What I am saying here, however, is for your own benefit and IS "called for".

The news article is truthful only from a perspective of what is happening in Mexico over these drug gangs and cartels. But the other half of the story describing WHY these things are happening in Mexico, as usual, was quietly omitted from the article.

First item of business is for the people to seize control of their media once again. Otherwise, the information is nothing but empty propaganda whose only use is to dupe the American people into remaining in an apathetic sleep state. Why worry when it's all happening "over there"? Nay! Worry about WHY it is happening over there as you watch young people overdosing on your own city streets. Where do the majority of those drugs come from? What is the money being used to FINANCE over there?

    Think. Please!

His opponent, FOXYS PICK, is an OPEN BORDERS, NAFTA/CAFTA/FTAA guy. Bush and gang are behind him doing everything in their power to get him elected. THEN we'll see the mex military incursions really be vamped up.

We've been dumping money into Mexico for years and years knowing how corrupt they are. Anyone wonder why? What companies and big guys are reaping those rewards while American tax payer money is poured into this shit hole of a country?

When the Lord said in the Bible that money is the root of all evil, He was serious, and these people are the epitome of that statement.

If this man gets elected, you know he will be assasinated for this stance. There will be no way these drug cartels will want him around and will have one of their infiltrators inside do the job.

Goes to show you what greed can do to humans. Makes us take that which is not ours, it makes us cross borders illegally, and it makes us kill to have what is not ours.
