RALEIGH -- House Republicans are rolling out a new version of a bill requiring voter identification before casting a ballot in North Carolina that wouldn't always require a photo ID.

The chairman of the House Elections Committee said Wednesday the proposal would allow someone to show their voter registration card to vote. Poll workers first would decide if the person's signature matches the signature used when the person registered to vote.

Rep. David Lewis of Harnett County said the bill is a draft and could be heard next week. He says bill supporters are trying to bring around Democrats to support the bill.

The General Assembly's Legislative Black Caucus held a news conference Wednesday and members said they're not inclined to support any bill that would put up obstacles to vote.

So after I rented my car (id req'd) and went to buy beer (id req'd) I drove over to get my fishing license (id req'd) and then rented a boat at Salem Lake (id req'd). I was asked to return to the dock for sneaking beer on the Lake and the officer wrote me a ticket referencing the info on my drivers license.
Afterward that busy day I went to exercise my right to vote in an election to decide who will represent me and steer the course for our State and Nation. (NO ID REQ'D)
