A way to get employers of Illegals busted

I just received my quarterly news letter from the CSLB (calif. state license board). I hold a C-10 lic. (not for business, just because I passed the state test years ago and ended up getting county job). Anyways they have an article about "tackleing the underground economy" they have stepped up raids and sting operations on contractors using illegal help. Then that only opens the door for other fines like no workmans comp., OSHA violations, not paying payroll taxes. Some contractors got major fines (some as much as $50,000), and many got fines and revoked lic. and published there company names along with owner's, RMO's, partners. Anyone in Calif. can call the Enforcement div. of the CSLB. They will respond to the location of the job. The list of revokes this last quarter...280! I can't say other states have heavy regulation of contractors like Calif.

    Skipp,

I'm going to tag along on your post here. I was thinking the other day instead of being noticable at day labor stations. Why not follow the employers back to the jobsite and report them to ICE. The problem may be much larger when you get to the jobsite. Also, you can find out who owns the property via tax rolls and things like the construction permits are filed with the city.... That construction firm or sub-contractor may have multi-job sites around the area. You have to find out who he is. Also, he could send someone to the day labor station to pick illegals for him. A little more investigation may yield bigger fish.

I am seriously asking if anyone has had success in reporting these people.

Does ICE (can't get used to that) really do anything about it?

I think it is a good idea just to let them know we are watching - both employer and ICE, but as far as enforcement, does it work?

Somehow 50K doesn't sound like nearly enough - I want them to hurt - really hurt.

    http://www.kxan.com/Global/story.asp?S=4812957
Scroll down to Construction raids that site had a couple listed

I'm sure you can google more. That Beaumont raid was pretty big.

I'm sure you can go to the CSLB website and look at a copy of the newsletter. It's only mailed to active lic. contractors, but i'm sure it's available for the consumer (public) to view. They call it underground economy. And it's been a big problem too long ( that's a quote from there enforcement ). I know a landscape contractor who has all illegals that work for him,And I asked him if he is worried about all this talk. He said.."I wish they would come and take all my employees away & all my competitors" "that way I can start chargeing the going rate"because he is lic. and to be legal (active lic.) has alot more overhead than people working illegally.

I'm not sure you guys know about this...but here in Virginia they started building "Day Labor Centers" with tax-payer funds. It was absolutely ridiculous...

    Article: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/co ... 02196.html

I'm happy to say that every council member who voted for this absurdity was duly defeated in the election. Some analysts are calling the vote a bellweather for what's to come.

All I can say is, "OH LET FREEDOM RING!"
