Boehner, Cantor, and Pelosi agree - it's time to attack Syria
Boehner is eager for a conflict with Syria, while he desperately tries to avoid one with Obama.
Moments ago, House Speaker John Boehner, Majority Leader Eric Cantor, and Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi all emerged from a White House meeting. The topic, of course, was Syria. The verdict? They're all convinced. It's time to support President Obama's noble war against Assad.
You'd think agreeing with Pelosi would serve as a warning. Guess not.
Boehner continued his bold 'give Obama what he wants' strategy by telling reporters that "This is something that the United States and the country needs to do. I am going to support the President's call for action. I believe my colleagues should support this call for action." Then he added that “The use of these weapons has to be responded to.”
Eric Cantor agreed, and released the following statement:
"I intend to vote to provide the President of the United States the option to use military force in Syria. While the authorizing language will likely change, the underlying reality will not. America has a compelling national security interest to prevent and respond to the use of weapons of mass destruction, especially by a terrorist state such as Syria, and to prevent further instability in a region of vital interest to the United States."
Both men agreed with the illustrious Nancy Pelosi, who claims that while intervention is necessary, the President needs to better lay out his evidence.
"I believe the American people need to hear more about the intelligence that supports this action," Pelosi said. She also claimed that Assad's behavior is "outside the circle of civilized human behavior, and we must respond. From a humanitarian standpoint, it cannot be ignored.”
So there you have it. The fix is in. The top level Republican elites have allied themselves with Nancy Pelosi to push Obama's war effort.
John Boehner has folded like a house of cards. Or, more specifically, he's folded like a house of cards that's been previously folded, over and over again.
