Response From Kay Bailey Hutchison
Thought some might like to see the very PC response from one of our illustrious Texas Senators on "English As The Official Language"
...Thank you for contacting me regarding the establishment of English as the official language of the United States. I welcome your thoughts and comments on this issue.
For more than two centuries and through successive waves of immigrants speaking hundreds of languages, families and teachers in our nation have reliably equipped both native-born and immigrant children with the English skills necessary for success. It is a testament to their work that English is emerging as a world language.
I believe learning and understanding the English language is critical for every resident of the United States. While our diverse culture makes our nation unique, English is the language of opportunity in America and around the world. I therefore favor teaching English to children at the earliest opportunity so they may be competitive in a global economy increasingly conducted in and dominated by English.
I appreciate hearing from you and hope you will not hesitate to keep in touch on any issue of concern to you.......I call on you in the name of Liberty, of patriotism & everything dear to the American character, to come to our aid...
