I hope all of you that live in the East are doing ok...and you all have power and can cool off.

We do, but we narrowly avoided a SHTF scenario. Being without power in this kind of heat is life threatening to the very young, senior citizens, and pregnant women.

What the hell is a "land hurricane" did they just come up with that term to try and explain this or what?

I can't imagine having that kind of heat with no relief! Im so thankful for our western cool fog when we have heat waves here.

I saw video's of the storms there in the east , scary stuff!!

Land Hurricane, ive learned a new term!

If climate change is indeed real, then we would expect these sort of extreme weather conditions to increase in frequency over the coming years and decades right? If so, we need to ensure power outages can be dealt with swiftly in the future. I can't imagine what you folks on the East are going through with the hot temperatures and without power. We had a power outage in almost all of San Diego County for a good 8 hours last year, I can't imagine a power outage for a week.

My power is back on, but my poor little great aunt (82 yrs old) who lives near Eagle Rock/Iron Gate/Covington Virginia hasn't had power since Friday evening and is not expected to have power restored for up to 7 more days! She said it was 104 in her house Sunday. I've been trying to find a generator to take to her but no luck so far. To make things worse, it's hard to get ice, water, and gas anywhere near where she lives. She said the Wal Mart in Covington is closed! Wal Mart never closes! I've begged her to come home with me but she won't leave. Very stubborn and makes me worry.

Here in cental Ohio, there are still many without power, some until the 7th estimated. I was without power for 3 days. Thankfully, I was able to go to my daughter's and stay because I live on the top floor, 3rd, of my apartment building, and there are no shade trees around me. I feel so sorry for those who are still suffering in this extreme heat. Then, on the news they are advising people to try to turn down the ac, and turn off lights, etc. as much as possible in the evening hours because they fear the transformers blowing again. What a mess. We have teams from many other states helping and even the Natioinal Guard from Texas is going around knocking on doors where the power is out and making sure the inhabitants are ok.

No wonder ALIPAC has been awfully quite these past couple of days. All you folks out there without power and struggling in the intense heat have not had a chance to get on the site. Like I said, we were without power for 8 straight hours and that was miserable enough, I can't imagine having to seek shelter elsewhere for days straight because of the heat. If climate change is real, be prepared for this to increase in frequency over the coming decades.

My heart goes out to all without power in this dreadful heat!
