S.S.#s of loved ones posted on web site

The following genealogy web site run by the LDS Church lists the Social Security numbers of your loved ones who have died. I contacted them because both of my deceased parents' Social Security numbers are listed, including the city and state where they lived. They said that the government publishes these as public record and that I would have to go to the Social Security office and talk to them to have the information removed. I understand that the death notice is public record, but Social Security numbers?

Go to this web site and look up a deceased loved one:

    http://www.familysearch.org/

This is an easy way for an illegal alien to take your loved one's identity and you would never know about it.

I'm going to forward that link to a couple senators and see what they can do about it....

It seems VERY wrong to me that such thing can be considered 'permissible' in this day and age; especially given the horrendous rates of ID Theft/Document Fraud, etc.

I meant to mention this earlier, but forgot to...

I don't intend to sound outright accusatory, but...
A reasonable person could wonder what the exact purpose is of posting the SSN in conjunction with a deceased person's name, etc.

I thought the exact same thing! The site is run by The Latter Day Saints.
