Sonora Conference of Legislators approves proposal

Representatives and congresspersons of Mexico and the United States concluded the work of the XVII Conference of Border Legislators, in which they unanimously approved the point in agreement presented by the representatives of Sonora in matter of defense and protection to migrants.

This is part of the conclusions of this seventeenth encounter in which participated the representatives Irma Villalobos Sour, Carlos Amaya Rivera, Leticia Amparano Gámez, Luis Melecio ChavarĂ*n Gaxiola, Ventura FĂ©lix Armenta, Francisco Garcia Gámez, Reynaldo Millán Cota and Petra Santos Ortiz. Including legislators from the states of California, Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, Baja California, Chihuahua, Coahuila, Nuevo Leon, and Tamaulipas.

The document establishes that the federal governments of both countries have the obligation to finance and to supervise the activities of the Border Patrol to respect t international agreements and the human rights of the migrants.

It condemns any legislation or act that violates the human rights of the documented or undocumented migrants and determines that the federal and state dependences of security should treat the migrants with respect and dignity especially the children through the utilization of programs that protect them.

The legislators in the agreement exposed the importance of the creation of laws that offer security, permit harmony among the borders and they regulate the demand of workers in the diverse areas for the United States, including agriculture, construction and services.

Another of the resolutions, contemplates that the federal governments of Mexico and the United States should invest in solutions to include a fast, secure border that is flutent for commerce and the circulation of people and of the products.

During the development of the activities of this day they discussed themes in matter of border crossings, highway and railway infrastructure, as well as agriculture and the contribution of the states in order to establish strategies of common security, competitiveness, quality of life and economic growth.

The issues to be taken in the following meeting to be carried out in the state of California, will be global climatic change, agriculture, the impact on water, the economic development in Mexico and investments for the maitaining of rural communities, migration and social peace.
