AZ: J.D. Hayworth: I'll Run Against John McCain

J.D. Hayworth: I'll Run Against John McCain

Former Arizona congressman leaves his conservative radio talk show saying he plans to run for U.S. Senate against Sen. John McCain.

PHOENIX (AP) -- Former Arizona Congressman J.D. Hayworth says he is planning to run against John McCain for his U.S. Senate seat.

Hayworth, a Republican, told The Associated Press late Friday he stepped down as host of his radio program on KFYI-AM, a conservative radio talk show in Phoenix. Legally, he would not have been able to remain host of the program and be an active candidate.

Hayworth was ousted from his Congressional seat in 2006 after 12 years in office by Democrat Harry Mitchell, and has hosted the radio show for the past few years.

"We will formally announce at a later time, but we're moving forward to challenge John McCain," he said. "I think we all respect John. I think his place in history is secure. But after close to a quarter-century in Washington, it's time for him to come home."

He said he wasn't serious about running against McCain until a recent "outpouring of support" from Arizonans asking him to run changed his mind.

"Arizonans have a clear choice -- a clear, commonsense, consistent conservative, or they can remain with a moderate who calls himself a maverick," Hayworth said.

Political experts say they are skeptical that Hayworth can raise enough money to mount a political campaign against McCain.

"Cook Political Report" analyst Jennifer Duffy said Hayworth would need to raise a minimum of $2 million to run a decent primary against McCain, who had already stashed away $5 million for the race by late last month, according to the group Friends of John McCain Inc., in a report to the Federal Election Commission.

Meanwhile, McCain recently announced that Sarah Palin would campaign in Arizona with him in March in their first such appearance since their unsuccessful bid as running mates in the 2008 presidential campaign.

The former Alaska governor is scheduled to attend a private fundraising event in Phoenix on March 26. The next day, she and McCain will appear together at a public event, likely a rally.

Thank God! I am so scared that Obama will bring up the amnesty bill that is being written by John McCains best friend Lindsey Grahmnesty and he will be "his maverick way" and vote yes for his great friend Lindsey!
I know that McCains rating went up because Sarah Palin said she would campaign for him - BUT I hope that AZ voters stand tall with Joe Arpaio who is supporting Hayworth!

If AZ voters send RINO McCain home that would be good for our border control and safety and our country!

Finally someone would stand tall with Americans.

I have always thought John should just move to Mexico rather than turn America into Mexico just because he personally wants it that way!

Once Hayworth announces my money is going to him and Sheriff Joe.

I like Hayworth and anyone who writes him off is making a mistake. McCain's office is ripe for the picking and J.D. is the man to take it!

Hmmmm.....where have I heard that before?

    Oh.....I remember now:

It's NOT McCain's seat.......it's the people's seat and we'd like it back now.

I live in GA but will send him a donation because he will benefit the entire country. Our two senators in GA helped write the amnesty bill with McCain and Kennedy, yet continue to run around like their conservatives.

I echo both of your comments.

I too will donate to McCain’s opponent.

People seem to forget that Chambliss and Isakson were the first two to step out on the steps of the Capitol with big smiles and endorse the backroom socialist legislation drawn up by McCain, Kennedy, the ACLU, 40 Mexican Consulates, and the Chamber of Commerce. These bozos had not even read the legislation.

Faxes, letters, and calls DIRECTLY from citizens made these two senators change their outward stance on illegal immigration, but I have no doubts that they are very much a part of the Globalist movement. I am sure I am the person who made Chambliss decide the "Meet and Greets" were not such a good idea. They both were terribly afraid of informed constituents on the subject of illegal immigration.

I continue to be confused by the actions of Arizonians. I remember when Arizona’s citizens took pride in their desert lands and held their own citizens accountable for the “disruption of the delicate environmental balance in the desertâ€

Could it be the masters of the Globalist movement are also the masters of the environmentalist?
    Most definitely! See below:

    New World Order Agenda.

There are 12 points and 3 main ideas to implement the NWO:

    A. Global/Govt Military
    B. Global/Govt Economy
    C. Global/Govt Religion

    1. Free Trade Deals (NAFTA)
    2. Economic Mergers
    3. Massive foreign aid
    4. Worldwide military bases
    5. Perpetual War (Americans will accept more taxes and debt being laid upon them then in times of peace.)
    6. Illegal immigration
    7. Many languages
    8. Military cross training & alliances
    9. Gun Control - disarm civilians
    10. Political correctness
    11. Heavy debt
    12. Promoting international culture

    [b]I’ve also heard “extreme environmentalismâ€

Re, Senator McCain, please see my post on a related subject, which makes reference to the Senator:

He is a war hero and a P.O.W., and I respect him greatly for that, but he is out of touch, and it is time for him to retire.
    Thanks.
