    CONGRESSIONAL ACTIONS

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Congressional actions
The citizenship of all persons born within the United States may still be decided by an Act of Congress, as was done for Native Americans in the Indian Citizenship Act of 1924. The Citizenship Reform Act of 2005 (currently proposed as H.R. 69 would amend the Immigration and Nationality Act to clarify that the domestically born children of foreign nationals are not granted automatic citizenship. Some legislators have proposed that the citizenship clause be changed through a constitutional amendment; however, no amendment has yet been presented to the States for ratification.

Once a bill is presented to congress, it is then assigned to some committee or subcommittee for review. Most bills never make it out of sub-committee. The number of cosponsorships of a bill is positively and significantly associated with the probability that a bill gains some consideration by a committee rather than simply being “killed” (taken out of consideration).

If your representative is not on the list above, please contact him/her and request they join the list of cosponsors for H.R. 698. The larger the list of co-sponsors, the better possibility the bill has of making it out of committee.

This bill is probably the best opportunity we are going to see in the near future to amend the Immigration and Nationality Act to deny citizenship at birth to children born in the United States of parents who are not citizens or permanent resident aliens.

***IF YOUR REPRESENTATIVE DOES NOT APPEAR AS A CO-SPONSOR ON THIS BILL, IT IS IMPERATIVE THAT YOU CONTACT HIM/HER IMMEDIATELY AND REQUEST THEY CO-SPONSOR H.R. 698!***

Thought I'd bump this one last time. I want to make sure everyone has the opportunity to see it. Please act if at all possible. Thanks.

    explain what it is
It's a request to show your support for a bill, H.R. 698, that would amend the Immigration and Nationality Act to deny citizenship at birth to children born in the United States of parents who are not citizens or permanent resident aliens. In other words, should H.R. 498 pass the Congress, future anchor babies will cease to exist. I would hate to see this bill "killed" and one possible way to avoid that is to add co-sponsors to it. If your representative does not appear below, please contact him/her (letter, email, phone call, etc.) and request he or she co-sponsor H.R. 698, which is currently sitting in the Subcommittee on Immigration, Border Security, and Claims.

Thanks MW for posting this. I will certainly write, though I think David Price would rather lose his Congressional seat than sign on.

Are there ANY Democrats on this list? It doesn't look like it. Only shows that party loyalty is stronger than loyalty, duty or accountability to the American people.

I agree, Rep. David Price, would probably rather sell his first born before signing on as a co-sponsor to this amendment, but it didn't stop me from writing him with my request! We need to run, not walk, to the polls at the first opportunity we have to oust this man from office. I don't know about you, but he sure doesn't represent me.

This man strongly supports S. 2611! Trust me, I've received enough correspondence from his office to know that.

MW, I think I got the same letter you did. I'm appalled actually because I thought he was a fairly reasonable person, at least based on what people I know who know him say about him. He has some other good anti-Bush qualities - like supporting environmental issues, wanting to deal with global warming, etc, but his support for amnesty is a deal breaker.
