BLOOMY BLASTS IMMIGRATION CRITICS IN CHINA SPEECH
By DAVID SEIFMAN City Hall Bureau Chief

December 13, 2007 -- Anti-immigrant sentiment in the United States is imposing "staggering damage" to the entire nation, Mayor Bloomberg declared yesterday in China.

"We live in a much more international world," the mayor said following a speech at Fudan University in Shanghai.

"The xenophobia that unfortunately seems to be gripping parts of America is really very dangerous. One of the things you realize is how dependent we are on each other."

His comments in China were the strongest he's ever delivered in defense of immigration.

"Immigrants built our city and country," the mayor said.

"Consider this: Half of the Americans who won Nobel Prizes in physics in the past seven years were born abroad. More than half the people with Ph.D.s working in America are immigrants . . . In fact, a quarter of all Silicon Valley companies were started by entrepreneurs from just two countries: China and India."

Mayoral aides said Bloomberg's comments were spurred by a wave of anti-immigrant sentiment in some towns, cities and states and weren't intended as political commentary.

Yeah, save this article, as we may need it at some time in the future if this idiot attempts to make a run as an Independent.

I'm am from NY and live there and I am also Jewish and I can tell you that when it comes to illegal immigration, Bloomberg is a damned idiot.

What he says is not only ignorant of underlying facts, it is against the entire Jewish experience.

Jews came here almost entirely legally, fleeing from rampant anti-semitism, pogroms and genocide. Those Jews that did come here illegally were not really illegal since they were fleeing from said anti-semitism, pogroms and genocide, which qualified them as legitimate asylum seekers and refugees.

Jews were never much more than 5% of the population in any given country. If sentiment turned against them, the Jews pretty much had to leave.

Meanwhile, almost all the illegal immigrants coming here have their own country, be it Mexico, China, Ireland, or what have you. These people are quite proud of their native countries, as evidenced by their carrying of the flags in the marches of 2006.

Moreover, those coming here illegally now are almost always coming here merely for economic opportunity, which is not a legitimate excuse to break the law, because if it were, every banker would be entitled to embezzle your money. If anybody is coming here now illegally, and they qualify for asylum or refugee status, then let them apply for said status and let it be granted.

What I said above also applies to the Jewish experience in ancient Egypt and modern day Israel, but I have no time to explain that.

What is he doing in China--hopefully buying toys for himself. His speech already proves he has been exposed to toxic levels of lead.
